This Pierce Askegren/Danny Fingeroth adventure introduces *three* competing villains (Hydra - led by Baron von Strucker; A.I.M. forces; and Viktor von Doom from Latveria) vying to capture a civilization-changing brand new Stark energy technology being developed on an orbital platform. Iron Man and Spider-Man have to leave the planet's surface to team up and fight them off.
The Science backing up the technology (incorporating Einstein's Unifying Field Theory) is sophisticated for a Marvel story.. and the character development - particularly Peter Parker's guilt motivation after the murder of a cantankerous mentor - is strikingly mature. As a 52-year-old voracious reader of Fantasy-SciFi, I was pleasantly surprised by how well thought-out this Comic Book adventure was.
Less fortunately, Askegren/Fingeroth script encounters so punctiliously (elaborating on technical details and expounding on every single muscle movement while in a fight) that combat comes across as inorganic & almost feels "hesitant". You will ask yourself "How is the bad guy not knocked out yet? Get on with it!"

Definitely in the audiobook's favor, on the other hand, is well above-average reading from James Patrick Cronin. True, he reads slightly too slowly (setting playback speed at 1.10X yields the best experience), but his diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are beyond reproach. The only deficiency in the performance is a couple of overly "gruff" character interpretations.

Altogether, 'Spider-Man and Iron Man - Doom's Day: Sabotage' rates 9 stars out of 10. Notwithstanding oddly plodding action scenes, it's worth a listen.
