À propos de cet audio
Brought to you by Penguin.
He thought he could set her on a better path. But they might both wander astray....
Sir Gareth Ludlow never truly recovered from the death of his fiancée. Years later, a chance encounter with Amanda, a young and devastatingly pretty runaway, inspires him to try to do the right thing and to set her on a path towards a good life.
But Sir Gareth has been neck-deep in a life of debauchery and hedonism ever since his fiancée's death, and Amanda's startlingly lively imagination proves to be more than he'd bargained for. As they both become increasingly entangled in Sir Gareth's scheme, it seems more and more difficult for either of them to lead the life they should....
A witty and delightful historical novel, Sprig Muslin shows why Georgette Heyer has such a huge and devoted readership to this day.

Sir Gareth is a great character. The description of this audiobook, which says he lives a life of hedonism and debauchery, is completely false. As is the insinuation that he would fall for a foolish 17-year-old. So I do not like the description on Audible.
Amanda is running away from home but even at 17, is much too naïve. I didn't find her believable as a character. She seems more like a 13-year-old.
Heyer also includes the character of Lady Hester Theale (who is not even mentioned in the Audible description) as someone who has secretly crushed on Sir Gareth for a long time and when he asks her to marry him, declines because she doesn't want to marry him if he doesn't actually love her. What nonsense - honestly, I had no patience for either Hester or Amanda in this story.
There are some redeeming factors - I loved the farmers and innkeepers and Hildebrand Ross was also fantastic (although also acting much younger than his 19 years).
Heyer is one of my favourite authors. Her writing is always fantastic. The story just fell a little short this time.
The audiobook:
This narrator was only okay. Honestly I almost quit at the beginning because of her awful pronunciation of "grandpapa" (saying it grand-PA-pa instead of GRAND-pa-pa). It was a sudden American accent in the middle whenever Amanda would talk about her grandfather, or anyone would talk about their mama or papa. Also, there were many other mispronunciations (saying "valet" the French way, which does sound better, but in England at that time they would have put the emphasis on the first syllable and pronounced the "t"), and a few other words that just made me cringe. Was no one checking her pronunciation?
I like listening to audiobooks but this just wasn't my favourite, either the story or the narration.
Heyer is always good but this one is not the best

She sounded as if she couldn’t wait to finish the book and she wasn’t the only one. I shall make sure I will make sure never to get the same reader.
