Description

John Lee has left Earth behind him as he travels to the capital of the Galactic Council. Seeking rest and an answer to what the enigmatic System is, John plans to spend his time reading and researching on Irvina. But fate has other plans for the human Paladin. Faced with a new quest and a Galactic Society that is as unfair to its citizens as it was to Earth, John must decide if his desire for a quieter life outweighs his conscience.

Stars Awoken is book seven of the System Apocalypse, a LitRPG post-apocalyptic series that combines modern day life, science fiction and fantasy elements along with game mechanics.

My favourite series

Another home run! Felt it right in my stomach as the end credits played. Maybe it's time to listen to the entire series from the beginning before hoping to find book 8.

Non sequitur?

It often felt as though I had missed an entire book. This series jumps ahead sometimes. So I've felt this before, and gotten over it. Here, though, I was missing a transition. Maybe that could have been achieved with a recap to highlight certain things over others from previous books? Or maybe if I had paid more attention to the setup in the description?

"No longer confined to Earth, our heroes move out into the galaxy -- and face new political and corporate threats -- while wondering about what in The System allows simultaneous communication across lightyears. Earth is mostly self-sufficient, as humanity's homeworld, and it has secured its vote on the Galactic Council. But it needs workers. Its status as a Dungeon World then presents new opportunities, which competitors seek to deny...."

The further development of the System Quest is interesting. That held my attention. But the move away from Earth meant lots of old relationships got left behind too. In many ways, this is a very different book than what first hooked me: much of the tension in the early books has been lost. So I'm much less enthusiastic than I was. But I will wait for the next one before deciding whether to continue with the series.

the master has found his balance

it can be a problem for some writers to write lit RPG books without going overboard on the mechanics or not going far enough but in this book Tao Wang has showing that he's put the right amount in for the story even though it is light on the mechanics in this story if you had gone any further it would have detracted from the story this story shows that how Tao Wang has grown as a writer from the beginning of the series and truly has perfected his craft and strives to improve with every book and it shows can't wait for next audio Edition it's a shame that he can't put this book out on audio at the same time as he does the book still can't wait

An enjoyable new direction

I liked this book a lot, it's a step back from the politics of the last book and I like the new direction this is heading.

"Oh boy, here I go killing again"

I feel like John mutters that to himself anytime he does anything outside of his study of the system.

This was an excellent start to the new arc, we already have a interesting new character. I'm hoping for more new character's with next book🤞. Not gonna lie though, I'm real tired of Roxley and Lana. Just give me a new romantic interest to root for. Finally, I can't wait to find out more of the lore of the system.

Back on top

While book 6 felt rushed, this book was back to the excellent and engaging pacing. This was yet another fantastic book from Tao. I am really looking forward to the rest of the series.

this book has restored my faith in the series

finally he's did away with quite a few of the old anime tropes I'm very happy with this book that character has seemed to evolve in many ways.

Yes!

After the somewhat disappointing end of the last book this one set it right.

The redeemer of the dead is finally going to live up to his title. No more pretending or deflecting he can finally be the hammer that humanity actually needs.

i wish this was a video game!

I love Tao Wong's writing style and his imagination of classes and depth. His fight scenes are stellar. The foreshadowing of the characters goals gives you a yearning to learn more about the universe he lives in and to learn more on how he will reach them.
