Wow.. just wow..
Let’s just say wow… just wow…
I started reading thinking this book seems different and oh my gawd it is. But in such a good way.
The author did absolutely wonderful sticking to the main of the story while still integrating the “oh wait! There’s more!” As there are 4 books to this series. Soooo can’t wait!!!
Okay okay…
First, ballet. I’m a complete “I-don’t-know-anything-about” person for ballet. Unless the knowledge I get from movies and television has any merit on the “know”. (Black Swan was awesome). The only thing I know about it is that, like other hobbies, careers, life styles, what have you, the stress and pressure is real. The physical and mental health issues that arise are real. And, every person deals with their “demons” differently.
Second, even not knowing much about ballet, this book was like “hey, you might not know what this is but here’s how it looks through words” and it was done brilliantly.
I felt like I could do some of the ballet positions… and others.
Third, this is not a book with “wham-bam-thank-you-madam” spice but the fluidity and depth of sensuality throughout the few moments… left me breathless.
Fourth, the “everyone has secrets” angle had me reading front to back nonstop with the “I-need-to-know” and itching to grab the next book
Last by not least
Fifth, this is the first book that I have ever read, that had the FMC fighting her own control of her inner demons so beautifully that I felt like she was me. The final release had me just mesmerized and wanting. Nicely done I say.
As a last note: narrators, as beautiful as your voices are for these characters, a little work on fluidity in speech and get angry when the text says angry (you know the capital lettering? That means yelling. I know, totally a millennial thing to do, yell in text form but ya, still. YELL! Please.) oh! And practice your opposite sex voices. Male narrator made it sound like FMC smoked a pack of cigarettes a day. Female narrator made all the males squeaky.
Practice makes perfect!
