Description

Thrilling adventures in wildlife conservation from “the Indiana Jones of Biology” (Entrepreneur)

Very few individuals can truthfully say that their work impacts every person on Earth. Forrest Galante is one of them. As a wildlife biologist and conservationist, Galante devotes his life to studying, rediscovering, and protecting our planet’s amazing life-forms. Part memoir, part biological adventure, Still Alive celebrates the beauty and determined resiliency of our world, as well as the brave conservationists fighting to save it.

In his debut book, Galante takes listeners on an exhilarating journey to the most remote and dangerous corners of the world. He recounts miraculous rediscoveries of species that were thought to be extinct and invites listeners into his wild life: from his upbringing amidst civil unrest in Zimbabwe to his many globetrotting adventures, including suspenseful run-ins with drug cartels, witch doctors, and vengeful government officials. He shares all of the life-threatening bites, fights, falls, and jungle illnesses. He also investigates the connection between wildlife mistreatment and human safety, particularly in relation to COVID-19.

Still Alive is much more than just a can’t-put-down adventure story bursting with man-eating crocodiles, long-forgotten species rediscovered, and near-death experiences. It is an impassioned, informative, and undeniably inspiring examination of the importance of wildlife conservation today and how every individual can make a difference.

A few minutes in ...

I was ready to write a glowing review after only a few minutes of listening. I haven't ever done that and I'm glad I didn't in this case, not because I changed my mind but because listening to it in its entirety solidified my fascination with this amazing person's story. I guess it isn't really just the author's story but also the animals' stories as well. What words can I use to describe what I had the privilege of hearing...inspiring, full of passion and excitement, captivating. That's my take on it, absolutely loved this.

Really Enjoyed!

Although i dont agree on some of forests perspectives on hunting as i feel like im in touch with the land and observe animals everyday and appreciate them at all times, i would sacrifice myself if it meant deer or elk survived as a species.

Enjoyed hearing about all your adventures and your passion for the outdoors and all that inhabit it. very excited to hear your next book or session on the JRE.

Cheers Forest!

Phenomenal and passionate

I absolutely loved the audiobook. After hearing on the JRE podcast that he had written and narrated a book I just had to get it. In my opinion, Forrest Galante is our generation's Steve Irwin. The amount of passion and love he has for these animals is inspiring and even though it was a bit hard for him in the beginning, he educated us throughout his media career.

I would also like to add that the best thing about the audiobook is that he narrated it himself. This would never been half as good if someone else narrated it.

For me personally, the book was perfect and I hope he'll write one with more details about his adventures because a lot of the things that happened haven't made it to the TV shows.

Enthralling, funny and thought provoking

So glad I invested in this book.. it was an interesting listen about the behind the scenes of a wild life reality program but more importantly it was an eye opening look at the way we as humans are treating our stewardship of our planets most vulnerable inhabitants - endangered species. I did not know about the Faroe island “grind” and now I almost wish I was still ignorant of its existence because it is such a horrific and unnecessary event that the world needs to hear about and stop.
Forrest Galante is a solid and engrossing author and a captivating narrator of his work. I am now going to look and see if he has written any other books - if he has not then I strongly urge him to do so A+++

Great book! Great feats, adventure and passion!

This is a great book with so many great events! I couldn’t wait to listen to the next chapter and learn about the next animal (supposed to be extinct or not). The author & narrator brought the story alive with his passion and all the details of his journey and discoveries / adventures.

I really appreciate his message about banning or controlling the wet market throughout the worlds to avoid another worldwide epidemic. But also his support to conservation to save endangered species and our world through them (conserve earth’s balance).

The book is well balanced and paced with actions, adventure, facts, info about research and emotions.
I definitely recommend listening to it! Enjoy!

A must read if you love anything to do with nature

An amazing read, What a life this man has lived and the inspiring things he and the people around him did to get to where he is today. This book is educational and bewildering as Forrest takes you through his personal life story and shows how important the connection between ecosystems and humanity is by literally living and breathing what he believes in. Thank you for your work and may the universe reward you and your family endlessly.
