In this book I missed London, and I wanted more Peter Grant and more Nightingale.

I found all the bits with Abigail Incredibly frustrating. It was like reading a teen romance novel. Those sections were not as well written and I felt Abigail's character was written as too young for her age.

However, they were the usual bits that were laugh out loud. Funny. But overall a disappointing book in the series.

As ever Kobna is a wonderful narrator.

Still Fun, but Missing the Spark

This book is a delight - the world's as weird outside London as within it!

Really enjoyed the two voices; Shvorne Marks's voicing Abigail pairs well with Kobna Holdbrook-Smith's usual masterful performance as Peter.

And some day I'd love to "read" how Taiwo, Kehinde and Indigo's pups navigate their world. Bound to be an outrageous partnership - and hilarious .

Though I enjoyed Peter’s narrative I was less interested in Abigail’s antics especially her romantic explorations and feelings which I didn’t care about. Perhaps this is trying to appeal to a new reader or is generational shift that I do not appreciate and it may be time for me to move on, shame!

Not the Peter Grant story I was hoping for

I used to love and recommend this series. No more. In practice, it lacks a good villain, but mostly it just seems like everyone involved in this series, including the author, has just lost interest and is phoning it in.

Kobna Holbrook-Smith is still good, but his energy is often lacking. Picks up at the critical moments, but overall sounds a bit listless. Shvorne Marks is a poor reader: pacing isn't great, too uniform, no different voices. Abigail was the worst thing that happened to this story. I've just never found her engaging. I skipped a lot of those chapters.

What a shame.

I miss the Rivers of London series
