À propos de cet audio
Stranger in a Strange Land is the epic saga of an earthling, Valentine Michael Smith, born and educated on Mars, who arrives on our planet with “psi” powers—telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, teleportation, pyrolysis, and the ability to take control of the minds of others—and complete innocence regarding the mores of man.
After his tutelage under a surrogate father figure, Valentine begins his transformation into a kind of messiah. His exceptional abilities lead him to become many things to many people: freak, scam artist, media commodity, searcher, free love pioneer, neon evangelist, and martyr.
Heinlein won his second Hugo Award for this novel, sometimes called his “divine comedy” and often called his masterpiece. This Blackstone audiobook is the “as published” version, read from an Ace paperback published in 1987. The full, uncut text was not made available until 1991.

In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

But when he and his top team are ambushed by a rival, he is gravely injured and placed in "half-life," a dreamlike state of suspended animation. Stories of Your Life and Others presents characters who must confront sudden change-the inevitable rise of automatons or the appearance of aliens-while striving to maintain some sense of normalcy. In the amazing and much-lauded title story (the basis for the 2016 movie Arrival), a grieving mother copes with divorce and the death of her daughter by drawing on her knowledge of alien languages and non-linear memory recollection.

Honestly one of my favorite books
I've read this book over 50 times, I actually had to buy a new physical copy because I wore it out. I love how Christopher Hurt reads this and portrays the characters. This audiobook is always my go to for if I just want to throw something on while I don't have my physical copy

I groked it
Although there are aspects of this book that don't age well, (misogyny and victim-blaming), this book contains some really progressive and compelling ideas of religion, sex and society. Heinlein introduces these controversial ideas, not in a preachy self congratulatory way, but puts the reader in a bystander position to see the compelling aspects of otherwise radical beliefs. Smith's innocence at the beginning of the book is incredibly endearing and had me laughing out loud. His character development alongside Gillian was incredibly engrossing. The story is very well written and even if it challenged my own personal tastes, I found it to be enriching and enjoyable through-out.

Dated and obtusely heterosexual, but a good read.
First off, Christopher Hurt did an absolutely incredible job. Most notably his Jubal Harshaw will be the only voice I ever hear in my head when I read this or any other Heinlein book.
Of the book, it shows it age in many ways, but other reviewers online will tell you why certain passages are socially obsolete. That being said, this is a good book. It keeps you engaged. You truly never know what's gonna happen next. The ending falls a little flat, but this book isn't about a climax, it's just the wild ride it takes you on. Recommend.

Good story, interesting concepts
Enjoyed a great deal of it, but it was a little long winded in the middle. An abridged version, maybe 3/4 would be great.

Not too fond of the whole religion/cult/free love
I want very interested until it turned into a religion/cult/free love thing. It just seemed to go on, and on, and on after that bifurcation. Can't love them all.
