We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Are you tired of feeling f*cked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer. In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unf--ked version of yourself. "Wake up to the miracle you are," he directs. "Here's what you've forgotten: You're a f--king miracle of being." It isn't other people that are standing in your way; it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive. It's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

From the celebrated neurobiologist and primatologist, a landmark, genre-defining examination of human behavior, both good and bad, and an answer to the question: Why do we do the things we do? Sapolsky's storytelling concept is delightful but it also has a powerful intrinsic logic: He starts by looking at the factors that bear on a person's reaction in the precise moment a behavior occurs, and then hops back in time from there, in stages, ultimately ending up at the deep history of our species and its evolutionary legacy.

Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Description
A runaway best seller in Sweden that has sold more than a million copies worldwide, Surrounded by Idiots shares a groundbreaking new method of understanding the people around you that will change how you interact with everyone from your coworkers to your spouse.
Author Thomas Erikson explains that there are four key behavior types that define how we interact with and perceive the people around us. Understanding someone’s pattern of behavior is the key to successful communication. Erikson breaks down the four kinds of behavior types - Reds who are dominant and commanding, Yellows who are social and optimistic, Greens who are laid-back and friendly, and Blues who are analytical and precise - and explains how to identify and interact with each type of person. Instead of being bogged down with overly technical categorizations, the simple four-color system allows you to speedily identify a friend or coworker and adjust how you speak and share with them.
Surrounded by Idiots is full of practical information for interacting with people based on their color, including the strengths and weaknesses of all the profiles, how to give positive and negative feedback to each, and the best way to word an email when writing to someone with a different profile.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

The book is overly simple and contrived
None of the "real world" examples are realistic portrayals of a human's reactions. They're all caricatures and stereotypes of their "colours". The book is overly simplified and not realistic.

Aha moment for a Red like me
I learned I was 100% red in this book and WHY I feel the way I do about so many of the "Idiots" I'm surrounded by. Really great read and I found myself laughing along at how spot on the characteristics of each colour are - especially my own. Highly recommend this book if you want a better inside look into the thoughts and minds of the people around you and how to better deal with different personality traits in your family, friend group and work place.

a decent introduction to human dynamics
if you are just starting to learn about human dynamics and the different ways humans function cognitively this would be a great book, but for myself who is someone bordering on obsessing on the subject at times, it was a bit too simplistic and reductive to feel worth listening to a second time. I personally found all four colors to be relatable to myself in a partial sense but never in a sense strong enough to be like "yes thats me". I would say yellow and blue felt more relatable than green and red but in some cases all 4 colors felt equally true to me and how I function. again, if you haven't spent much time on the subject I would say it's a great place to start, but if you are decently familiar with things like jungian psychology/mbti, spiral dynamics, or the enneagram system you may find it falling a bit short on captivating information

Interesting but predictable
Interesting book, but slightly repetitive. In many ways the author goes to extreme behavior and offers a similar way to deal with all people. Certainly worth reading, but as a red it could've been more concise.

Misleading - old information
I started this book with high hopes and an open mind, but the more I listened the more I found the information not as current as other resources.
The main issue I have is that the assessments of personality I fear are conflated with lack of emotional intelligence.
You can have a driver type personality but also be aware of how to communicate effectively.
Each example (of which there were many and repeated many times in the book) were almost extreme cartoon examples of how a personality would react if they had an exaggerated low emotional intelligence.
There are many other (better IMO) resources available that cover personality, communication styles, work styles and separate to that emotional intelligence.

Catchy Title; Complicated Content
Narration by David John: 5 stars
Content by Thomas Erikson: 3 stars
While hearing this audiobook, i was continuously thinking about the people around me and trying to divide them in colours. But, it isn't simple at all. Human behaviour doesn't remain consistent then how can the color significance be. We are combination of every colour given and missing. It is a welcoming subject to read , however, do not consider this as a way to measure people, reject or accept and ofcourse treat differently.
