A wild ride

This story is a bit of a wild ride both in terms of action and lesbian sex. I don't know how accurate the depiction of bipolar disorder, which the main character struggles with managing, is as it doesn't run in my family and I'm not a medical professional, but it does seem researched. She talks some about bipolar 1 vs 2, for example.

Honestly, I'm a bit hesitant about whether to give this story a 4 or 5 star rating. It feels scattered, but that works artistically speaking because of Josie's erratic state emotionally and mentally and to some degree even physically (eg libido and the injuries she gets doing reckless things while manic) and most of the threads are tied off by the end even if some doubts remain. I guess my main beef is I would like to see more of Josie's personality besides her disorder... at times that was focused on so much it was hard to see the person past the illness. Still, to maintain a fast pace I'm not sure Laughlin could have done more with her in a single book. I do think it would have been great if she had made this a series of 2-3 books so we could see Josie develop and see how her relationship pans out. I looked at thr author's website and didn't see any more books about Josie... she seems to write stand alone books.

Narration is very solid. I could have done with a bit more passion in places, but there was good enunciation, it wasn't robotic, and she did enough different voices (without sounding ridiculous) to keep it clear who was talking most of the time. That's all I ask for in a narrator.
