À propos de cet audio
"You consider yourself to be a creature of light...but you long for the darkness. It's where you belong. It's who you are... Do you not think I recognize the parts of a soul that mirror my own?"
Meg Giry grew up with tales of the Opera Ghost, a spectral being said to haunt the Paris Opera House. But when he rescues her from rape in the streets of Paris, Meg learns that the stories are true, that the ghost, also known as the Phantom of the Opera, is a real man, with his sights set on her best friend, Christine Daae. Despite being warned to stay away, Meg is drawn deeper into a world that has remained secret for years, her life becoming inextricably linked with the dark and mysterious Erik, and is forced to confront the darkness that lurks within her own past, finding herself always in the shadow of an Angel of Music....
©2014, 2017, 2018 Louise Anne Bateman (P)2018 Louise Anne BatemanPersonally, I have to say that Ms. Bateman's characterization of the Phantom is somewhat darker and more violent than I generally prefer. But it works! She's very effectively captured and conveyed his mentality and view of the world given his life. And I have to say that the actor who reads the Phantom is seriously hot!!! He also, however, absolutely nails the emotion of the character throughout the book, and especially in the Final Lair. Which was and is thrilling to hear!
In addition, Ms. Bateman has done a great job harmonizing the stage-version and the Gerik, with some lovely nods to Leroux included as well. Indeed, one of my great delights in reading/listening to the book for the first time was spotting the references to ALW and Leroux cleverly woven in throughout the text! Indeed, the only thing to, perhaps, be said of the book is that it ends on a truly wicked cliffy. So, needless to say, I absolutely cannot wait till its sequel comes out later this year! Especially since, as I understand it, it'll be done as a full-cast dramatic reading too, with the same fellow as the Phantom!!!
This book rocks!
