Really appreciate the direction this podcast is going, but every episode left me scratching my head and looking around like “is that it??” The episodes are heavily cut down to keep everything snappy and while I appreciate that, it really stilts the conversation. I think it’s over-directed in this sense. While mid-conversation with guests, the host cuts to quick interludes to basic primers on important topics (usually sourced science), but it would be so much more natural to just take 5-10 minutes to explain these concepts to the guest in full, allow them to ask questions and make comments. It’s like the host wants you to come away with three super-actionable bullet points from each episode, and it’s all wrapped up nicely to allow the guest and listener to do exactly that, but you don’t feel that you have a deep enough understanding of the topic to be effective. In fact, it feels like the guest is only brought on as a framing device to allow the host and additional expert to make their nicely packaged, accessible points, and then the guest (who needs and is asking for real help!) is shuffled of the stage as soon as we hit our quota for catchy, consumer-targeted talking points. “What’s one thing we talked about today you can put into practice?” “Uhhh. I guess I’ll start journaling?” “AMAZING, we made SO MUCH PROGRESS today, now go forth and live an AWESOME life!”

Snappy is good, but it’s TOO snappy. The snappiness is detracting from the value here. Also, the generic positive music along with the self-promotion included in each episode starts to feel superficial and insincere.

Good mission, good concept, but doesn’t provide enough value and leaves you asking whether you’ve just wasted your time. A good approach to get real value here would be to ONLY listen to the program for name-drops (authors, thinkers, books, papers, important concepts) and to just go straight to the sources and get your kicks there instead. It’s almost patronizing, like the host thinks that any substantial information will ‘turn off’ the stupid, ignorant audience. Essentially, all this positive psychologist can do is point you in the right direction to cobble together your own curriculum and teach yourself the concepts.

Not bad, but too shallow and over-edited

So tired of this schtick. Why is it that people have to say how amazing someone is to “validate” them for the reader? The rhetoric of congratulatory accolades is tiresome.

So annoying
