À propos de cet audio

They say they have no children. So who did I see at the window?

My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together.

But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to? And why can I hear a lullaby drifting across the garden when I’m tucking my own boy into bed?

Then, one night, I see a small shadowy figure in their bedroom window…

I thought I’d learned my lesson about trusting the wrong people, but now I’m forced to wonder what this perfect couple are hiding.

And if I try to save that little helpless figure in the window, will I do what I’ve always feared most, and put my beautiful boy’s life in danger…?

Ohh the twists and turns in this one are great! Loved the story, it never got flat and the narration was great. Interesting characters all around and as always well done with the Flashbacks in time! Ready for the next one by slater!

Love her books - but this one kept me guessing all the way through. Loved the characters and the plot. And the ending was totally unexpected!

Couldn’t put down

Seemed like there were some plot holes and there was really no big shocking twist

It was okay

I found the first bit slow. I actually stopped the book, and read another. I came back to it and gave it another go. Glad I did, it didn’t disappoint.

Slow start, but great impact

I personally love her books - she draws you into the characters and always keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. I also love the narrator - she did an excellent job!

Suspenseful!!

The Book was too predictable. I prefer to be surprised yet this one I figured out most of it early on.

Suspense till the end

This K.L. Slater book reads like she decided to really focus on the craft of writing. It has her signature fascinating twisty-turny plotting, secret-keeping vengeful characters, and drip-drip-drip revelations.. but largely sticks to a pair of linear narratives instead of constantly jumping in & out of timelines from varied POVs (she still does, so, mind you.. it's merely less striking).
Hints are dropped consistently of terrible events in the past (and to come) invariably followed up by unexpected/"shocking" explanations.
On the positive side, the technique drives the plot nicely. Unfortunately, Slater isn't very good at it.. allowing foreshadowing to overwhelm the pacing of the book. In fact, the glimpsed child through the bedroom window as described in the Publisher's Summary doesn't even appear until Chapter 29. The story drags so much in places that I sometimes found myself saying out loud "Get On With It!" like someone wearing Viking Horns during a 'Monty Python' sketch.

As to presentation: Reader Clare Corbett is excellent on this recording. True, her characters' voices are too often indistinctive, but her diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are unimpeachable. Bravo to Audible Studios Inc. for a fine production.

Altogether, 'The Bedroom Window' has some flaws but rates 8 stars out of 10. It's easily worth your time as a 'Plus' selection.. even rating a Credit should they ask for one.

[Note: I'm not certain why "I found out my cruel mother wasn't really my mother" turns up as a plot element so often, but Slater includes it in an awful lot of her stories]
