I have had some difficulty with this book. I will have to begin again.

I have read all 3 Nick Louth novels featuring DCI Craig Gillard - and the character development has been excellent. This time, Craig has to revisit his past and untangle a web of lies and deceit. I found it interesting, easy to listen to and had it in my ear buds, in the car, or on my wifi speaker constantly. Looking forward to book 4.

Compelling Mystery with Plot Twists to the End

I liked the 1st two books in this series. Part of why I did so was the character who became the DI’s wife; she was smart, world-wise, and wouldn’t stand for crappy treatment.

THEN, in THIS BOOK, her character is the opposite! This woman no longer has any power of deduction (to such an extent that she doesn’t understand what is meant, when someone else’s deductive steps are recounted to her); is mind-bogglingly naive, and is incapable of standing up for herself, even when dealing with a sexual predator.

The main and overall plot of this book would have been just fine; there was NO need to change this woman’s character into a stereotypical, idiotic female. SHAME on NICK LOUTH.
