I may be bias because I am a huge morbid fan, but this book did NOT disappoint! I was not expecting to literally feel my skin crawl with the way Alaina describes certain scenes or the brutal actions of The Butcher. This book is so well written that you can feel the dread these characters experienced when in the wrath of The Butcher.

I also really enjoyed how much of Alaina I could feel in the book. I “know” Alaina through Morbid, so by being an avid listener I feel like I know her (and Ash) on a personal level. With that said, I have never known an author the way I “know” Alaina which truly made this an even more spectacular experience. The words that were chosen, the personal knowledge from being an autopsy technician, her knowledge of serial killers from years of research for morbid AND her personal twist due to being a natural born weirdo made it so fun and mysterious.

It’s been an incredible journey as a Morbid fan to see this come to fruition. I cannot wait to listen to the next book, you literally killed it, Alaina!

I could not stop listening. A definite must for those that like psychological crime stories. Suspenseful and chilling - you are left wanting more. Normally do not care for alternating character chapters, but this was written beautifully. Smooth transitions. A must read for the crime junkies. Great job Alaina! Can’t sIt for the next one.

I went in not really sure what to expect, so I tried to stay objective because I do listen to her podcast but I wanted to judge it without that in mind.

For a first book, I'm very impressed! The writing and imagery were alluring and as a scientist in a previous life and a med student I was very impressed with the scientific accuracy! Not surprising considering her occupation, however, a lot of research still clearly went into it.

I really liked the concept, the twist really threw me and I had to go back and listen a couple of times to make sure I understood it right. My one gripe is that this story was really good, but it felt like it should've been fleshed out more. I didn't feel that I "knew" the characters as well as I could have and the story felt rushed at times. Basically, I wish I had more story because it was such a solid concept and what's there is really good, just needed a bit more development I think.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and definitely was on the edge of my seat while listening.

I have been an avid Morbid Podcast listener for a couple years now and I love Alaina and Ash (and their banter). When I heard Alaina was writing a book I knew it would be amazingly morbid and suspenseful as she has a particular talent for captivating your attention on the podcast. This piece of literary suspense and horror is everything I hoped for and more. I am not typically an avid reader/listener of fiction but this story of twists and turns changes that. I am already in anticipation for another book release as the ending had me on the edge of my seat. To be honest it even had me pondering a book to movie as it would be an excellent thriller flick. Alaina’s book is truly a must listen/read for the true crime and weirdo community!

I’m an avid Morbid listener, and Alaina’s novel did not disappoint. I could not stop listening. It was gripping, suspenseful, informative all at once. The characters were awesome, and the story was well told. Alaina, I cannot wait for what I think will be a sequel to this. You got this girl!

Such an interesting and unique book that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. So many unexpected & intense twists and turns! I already can’t wait for book #2
