Almost 50 years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, his murder continues to haunt the American psyche and stands as a turning point in our nation’s history. The Warren Commission rushed out its report in 1964, but questions continue to linger: Was there a conspiracy? Was there a coup at the highest levels of government? On March 1, 1967, New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison shocked the world by arresting local businessman Clay Shaw for conspiracy to murder the president.

This is an ambitious, meticulous examination of how U.S. foreign policy since the 1960s has led to partial or total cover-ups of past domestic criminal acts, including, perhaps, the catastrophe of 9/11. Peter Dale Scott, whose previous books have investigated CIA involvement in southeast Asia, the drug wars, and the Kennedy assassination, here probes how the policies of presidents since Nixon have augmented the tangled bases for the 2001 terrorist attack.

In 1965, the US government helped the Indonesian military kill approximately one million innocent civilians. This was one of the most important turning points of the 20th century, eliminating the largest communist party outside China and the Soviet Union and inspiring copycat terror programs in faraway countries like Brazil and Chile. But these events remain widely overlooked, precisely because the CIA's secret interventions were so successful.

Description
The author of three books on CIA operations, Douglas Valentine began his research into the agency's activities when CIA director William Colby gave him free access to interview agency officials who had been involved in various aspects of the Phoenix program in South Vietnam. It was a permission Colby was to regret. The CIA would eventually rescind it and made every effort to impede publication of The Phoenix Program, which documented an elaborate system of population surveillance, control, entrapment, imprisonment, torture, and assassination in Vietnam.
While researching Phoenix, Valentine learned that the CIA allowed opium and heroin to flow from its secret bases in Laos to generals and politicians on its payroll in South Vietnam. His investigations into this illegal activity focused on the CIA's relationship with the federal agencies mandated by Congress to stop illegal drugs from entering the United States. Based on interviews with senior officials, Valentine wrote two subsequent books, The Strength of the Wolf and The Strength of the Pack, showing how the CIA infiltrated federal drug enforcement agencies and commandeered their executive management, intelligence, and foreign operations staffs in order to ensure the unimpeded flow of drugs to traffickers and foreign officials in its employ.
Ultimately, portions of his research materials were archived at the National Security Archive, Texas Tech University's Vietnam Center, and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
This book includes excerpts from the aforementioned titles, along with subsequent articles and transcripts of interviews on a range of current topics, with a view to shedding light on the systemic dimensions of the CIA's ongoing illegal and extralegal activities. These articles and interviews illustrate how the agency's activities impact social and political movements abroad and at home.
A common theme is the CIA's ability to deceive and propagandize the American public through its impenetrable, government-sanctioned shield of official secrecy and plausible deniability.
Though investigated by the Church Committee in 1975, CIA praxis then continues to inform CIA praxis today. Valentine tracks the agency's steady expansion into practices targeting the last population to be subjected to the exigencies of the American empire: the American people themselves.

The CIA as Organized Crime: A personal perspective
A must read for the better understanding of current and past negative world activities. While unfortunately most of the events and practices brought to light in this text come as little or no surprise, the historical reflection of how this organization came to be and how to try to corral this monster and all of its collaborative entities leaves little to the imagination.

War on the Public, Phoenix Style
Would you listen to The CIA as Organized Crime again? Why?
I heard Douglas Valentine on the Corbett Report and his narration covered the Phoenix Program. I am a Targeted Individual and what he was saying made sense from a historical and current point of view. This book gives strong clues about why America is turning into a fascist Police state due to corruption. I am hoping it will at least wake people up.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The CIA as Organized Crime?
Chapter 3 is a wake up chapter. It It narrates what has happened in Vietnam and what is happening in America. It is the same.
What about Stefan Rudnicki’s performance did you like?
Excellent performance
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Definitely because I want to go out and tell friends and others that it will be easier than before to wake people up if what I am seeing works out.
Any additional comments?
It would be noble of you to offer chapter 3 or even the entire book as a sharable and free content. Its just a thought. I am going to listen to your Corbett Report interview again. Thanks for your book to see if it will be thorough enough.

Lots of "Cadres" Involved
This is a book you would like to see on paper. It contains like a hodge podge of different interviews Mr. Valentine has done wherein he explains CIA operations and how he came to know about them from interviewing different CIA agents.
The author overuses and in my opinion misuses the word cadre. He seems to use it interchangeably with agent or some other singular word. Every definition of cadre I have seen says a cadre is a "nucleus" or a "core group" of trained personnel. Valentine seemingly uses cadre when telling of individuals. I am somewhat OCD on my words and I get hung up on it for a minute thinking of what he meant. I wish he would go back and rethink the usage of the word cadre and try to find a suitable replacement in many instances. Or, as an alternative, give us all the super secret CIA definition of the word. Maybe it is code for a super agent? Doubtful...
The narrator pronounces some names (like what I would think of as common, household names) in odd almost comical ways. I am drawing a blank on specific names at this point. Overall, I think he did a good job with the material. It was just those 3 or 4 names he pronounced "wrong" out of almost 17 hours of jargon.
This brings one of his oddities to mind. I am an attorney and I do a lot of criminal defense, so, I have been dealing with the prison or Department of Corrections for 20 years or so. This guy pronounced DOC like you would say "what's up, Doc?" He kept talking about sending people to the "dock" (is how I heard it). I kept thinking, "What dock?" Where is this dock?" About the 3rd or 4th (and last) time he said it, my mind pictured DOC. I would pronounce that as "D-O-C" if I were reading the book. Oh, he's going to send you to the DOC, now I get it. Lol
Spoiler Alert: Who knew? Who knew the CIA actually had a group called "Chaos" operating within its HQ? That's what this author claims. He said they operated out of a dark basement with no windows and a bunch of cubicles for years. Then, I believe he said they got a new manager. Anyway, somebody commandeered some office space above ground (4th floor, maybe?) with real windows. I always figured that "Get Smart" was poking fun at our CIA and the other "intelligence agents" of the world. But, in the show, "Control" would more aptly represent our CIA. Control (in the real world) controls Chaos!

boring interview dribble
Book is boring, Narrator is OK but it is not his fault the book is fragmented. It is written like a series of interviews of the author from separate columnist and lots and lots of name dropping. The only entertaining part of the book is listening to how a clearly communist or at least hard core liberal complains about and is skeptical about big government programs like the CIA. Kind of an oxymoron. A little bit like listening to my big government liberal neighbors complaining about taxes. I would save my credits and money for something else.

Very Interesting - This book is a CIA PSY-OP
I'd like to begin by saying this book has been fascinating. Not necessarily trust worthy, but it is current and highly relevant on many levels. I've studied government and society for over 20 years. I believe in America and the idea of a Lawful and Constitutionally Limited Government. What we have now is a multi-headed monster, NOT a Lawful Government. It is my strong opinion the CIA is complicate in the subversion of America. Based on the title of this book, "The CIA As Organized Crime: How Illegal Operations Corrupt America And The World', it's implied this is also the informed and professional opinion of the author.
The information in this book is very revealing. Yet I believe it to be riddled with disinformation and intentionally misleading logic. The author starts the book by explaining how his genius and high connections got CIA agents to open up about the crimes they have committed. This is very likely a false anecdote to over dramatize and justify his access to what would be otherwise highly privileged and dubious information. More likely he is a CIA Agent himself and has ready access to the individuals he quotes. Even more likely, is he was in fact commissioned to write this book in an effort to help facilitate the creation of a specific ideology among a specific population. This book is Strongly Anti-Capitalist and Anti-American. His words condemn the CIA and government in order to gain the readers confidence appearing as a champion of the people. Framing his rhetoric from this position allows his message to reach the intelligent liberal minds who are rightfully dissatisfied with our current state of affairs. These are passionate people who care about the world and are actively seeking answers to real problems. A fertile environment for a disinformation agent with an assignment. He even tells you how it works in the book to imply he is morally superior to these tactics and is simply exposing them to you so you wont fall for them as he pulls the wools over your eyes. Sales people do this all the time. They will tell you how important it is to check the license and insurances of the company your working with because of all the unscrupulous money saving schemes while waving what he hopes you'll believe is a valid or current license or insurance policy when in fact it was just a photo copied version of a 5 year old policy altered to look legitimate. But now he is safely past your defenses and scrutiny. Shakespeare said it best, "Thou doth protest too much."
Conservatives, this book was NOT written for you. This was a political hit job on the mind of the Liberal Voter as mentioned above. This is a book they will reference when positioning against political corruption they claim is rooted in the Conservative movement. The author labels conservatives as white supremacists and a hate filled political platform. These are statements we hear consistently coming from the left. This book and others like it are where they are given the fodder to formulate their erroneous ideas so audaciously echoed through the corporate mass media.
Since this book is about CIA criminality you will learn a lot about how the CIA acts as a criminal organization against the best interests of the American people and our government. It is expected that most American loving conservatives (aka: Republicans) are grounded in the belief there is a real vital NEED / ROLE for the CIA and based on the title alone will dismiss this book entirely. The young adult, or college student, struggling with their beliefs in our tumultuous sociopolitical climate search for right and good in the world. They readily cling to anti-establishment ideas, victim mentality (by government or otherwise ex: anti-bullying movement), the anti-war agenda, clean earth protocols, and at the same time are lead down a path of socialist ideology. Along their journey they are softly pitted against fascists and communists who they come to see as separate and distinct ideologies from their own socialist view point. The author directly suggests the fascist movement and capitalist movement are one and the same. In his mind Monopolistic Capitalism and Free Market Capitalism are two side of the same coin, an inversion of the truth. its his hope the reader wont be able to discern the two and therefore only refers to capitalism as the culprit. So to his reader he paints the image totalitarian, fascist, and communist movements being run by the arch nemesis of socialism, namely the "Right Wing 'Fascist' Conspiracy". Of course as any scholar knows socialism is simply the politically correct word for Communism. Socialism, Fascism (aka: Monopolistic Capitalism), Communism, and Totalitarianism are all systems of rule where the power is concentrated in a small group of elite who lord over a much larger population. In essence they are all the same oppressive government strategy with subtle variations masked behind the sirens song of socialism.
The change from a Constitutional Republic can only happen when anarchy is injected into the system. The young socialists identify with the, "if the cats away the mice can play", ideas of anarchy. They begin feeling justified in their violence. They demand change and human rights be legislated by a just government. They take up the anarchist flag and march against the Capitalist Right Wing Conspiracy because they fight for REAL Freedom, or so they believe. The anti-government anarchists push forward champions to lead their march, much like Che Guevara in his time, and once successful they decide they aren't really anti-government after all. They do believe in a system of rule but a system ruled by themselves and their champions, thus instituting a new socialist democracy. These socialist democracies, due to fundamental flaws, soon deteriorate into full blown Communist states. It's not until the end of the book the author reveals the strength and vigor of his anti-capitalist, anti-Constitutional, anti-Trump agenda with token and petty chastisements of the Hillary Clinton campaign as well. Bear in mind the CIA and it's former director John Brennan played a key role in vehemently subverting the Trump campaign.
For those still in doubt, if this author is anti-CIA as the title implies and anti-capitalist/anti-Trump we must recognize the discrepancy and try to reconcile. Does the author's hatred for one supersede his hatred for the other? or is his hatred for the CIA simply a ruse to conceal his political agenda, the expansion of the Resistance Movement working against a political opponent utilizing the very tool he outlined in his book? "There are no contradictions. If you feel you have found a contradiction go back and check your premise. You will find one of them is wrong." -Ayn Rand Still this is truly a fascinating read to understand logistically how psy-ops work and how the CIA has truly helped to subvert America, both its people and it's government. Read with severe discernment.

thoughful but sloppy Anti-Americanism
I struggled to finish. Both the narrator and author are very annoying. The author is a bigot and his book is all over the place only loosely connecting his thoughts. He writes so lazily he includes transcripts of media appearances he did for English speaking foreign press. He does have some insights. But don't fall for the hook, this is Rick roll about Vietnam.
