À propos de cet audio

Michelle and Cliff Stage bought their isolated vacation cabin in the mountains of North Carolina with hopes of repairing their 18-year marriage. But when Cliff disappears one night searching for the source of a mysterious light in the woods, Michelle’s life will change in unimaginable ways. After the sheriff’s department fails to find him, Michelle scrambles down the same dark mountainside alone, the strange, beckoning light her only guide.

What she discovers is a cabin, identical to theirs, housing a life she barely recognizes - and a husband she hardly knows. Cliff is a changed man. Now caring and considerate, no longer a manipulative womanizer, he is also missing a finger. He claims that Cassie, their teenage daughter, is dead, killed in a car accident more than a year ago. Michelle knows that’s not possible - Cassie had phoned her from Atlanta only hours before. Even when shown Cassie’s grave, Michelle refuses to accept she’s gone.

Michelle wants her daughter and her life back, and the only clue to what has happened is a man named Pink. A real estate agent and the man who years earlier built Michelle and Cliff’s cabin, Pink was rumored to have killed his wife and buried her on the property, then vanished, never to be seen again. But in Michelle’s new reality, Pink and his wife still reside in town and Pink’s smile-splashed billboards are everywhere.

To get back to the world where her daughter exists, Michelle must unravel the mystery of Pink while questioning her very reality - and her sanity. Haunting, atmospheric, and deeply thought-provoking, The Cabin on Souder Hill questions the very nature of our existence and the choices we make to form it.

Lots of twists and turns, great detail in the mystery. The narrator’s whispery voice was a bit grating but not the end of the world.

Fascinating storyline

Lonnie Busch offers a most unusual paranormal-flavored story about a woman ('Michelle Stage') who finds herself in an alternate reality after her husband goes missing from a remote Georgia foothills cabin. 'Pink Souder', a sketchy real estate agent - with a Wiccan Practitioner for a mother, an airhead mistress, and a fascinating B**ch of a wife - plays pivotal roles in both realities.
The writing is capable, the dialogue is true-to-life, and the plot is full of enough WTF revelations to keep readers/listeners interested.
Less fortunately, Busch's style is far too lighthearted for the subject matter - almost sounding like parody at times - and there are some unnecessarily explicit sex scenes for some reason.

As to presentation: Reader Sarah Mollo-Christensen is a genuinely frustrating reader. Her voice-acting is some of the best that I have ever heard (I checked a couple of times to see if the incredibly distinctive characters weren't delivered by a full-cast ensemble), but her persistent overenunciation and whispery narration timbre becomes very annoying over time. In toto, Blackstone Publishing Inc. could have cast this project better.. they offer a solidly "adequate" listening product.

Altogether, I rate 'The Cabin On Souder Hill' 6.5/10 stars. The unintentionally humorous, often straight-up ludicrous tale was an oddly captivating diversion for a couple of quiet afternoons.. but not worth a Credit if they ask for one.

I always read reviews before listening to a book and I was advised that the narrator wasn’t great- but I saw no problems with her at all. She was wonderful for her role - suit the narrator’s voice just fine- and was great with the other characters- especially Pink.

I hated Pink’s character but I loved him at the same time. I never wanted to beat and hug a character so much.

I really enjoyed the plot twists- didn’t see them coming, but there’s no deus ex machina stuff… which is incredible.

Would definitely recommend!

The author does a great job of keeping you guessing where the story is going to go. I would definitely recommend this title.

When reading the book description i interested Robyn away but wondered how the story was going to take 10 hours to play out.

This is one out of not very many that I had no idea where the story line was going or what was “really” happening!!!

I love that about a good book when it all comes together

It’s been a while

I really liked the story and it's characters. The narrator, on the other hand, was difficult to listen to. She sounded like she was ready to cry all the time and her intonation didn't seem to match with the situations.

Good story but didn't like the narrator.
