Description

An action-oriented guide to help anyone find their calling and achieve their goals, inspired by the author's popular blog post with the same title

The Career Manifesto presents an inspiring and refreshingly simple approach to finding your passion and purpose and then jump-starting a dream career to achieve those, by asking three essential questions:

  • What do you want your impact to be?
  • What are the potential pathways that move you toward your purpose?
  • How can you hold yourself accountable for your goals?

Award-winning CEO of XO Group and sought-after speaker Michael Steib draws on his own diverse work experience and career highlights as well as powerful anecdotes from other successful business leaders to offer expert guidance, field-tested advice, and interactive exercises that will help you answer these three key questions, envision a goal, and then craft and execute a plan to achieve it. For young professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives seeking more purpose and meaning in their work and lives, The Career Manifesto is the essential way to build - and follow through on - an effective plan to excel at whatever job, project, or career goal you put your mind to.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"Over the years, I've shared Mike's original Career Manifesto with hundreds of employees. The book asks big questions and provides practical examples of how to move forward toward your goals. If you are someone who strives to be at the top of your profession and wish you had a cohesive approach to getting there, this book is written for you." (Matt Derella, VP of global revenue and operations at Twitter)
"Not only has The Career Manifesto helped me dream big about my life and my career, but it also provided a step by step guide to help me get there. I find myself turning back to it again and again, and I share it with anyone I know who is working through developing their career and their life." (John Saroff, chief executive officer, Chartbeat)
"As a participant in and witness to Mike Steib's wonderful evolution, I testify wholeheartedly to both the wisdom and actionability of the lessons in The Career Manifesto." (David Bell, chairman of Gyro and fomer CEO of Interpublic Group)

Filler Content

I was disappointed with this one. I had expected the book to primarily focus on 'discovering your calling..' but found that it was only the first chapter or two that spoke to that topic. The remainder was mostly along the lines of life hacks that you've likely heard elsewhere - get enough sleep, look people in the eye, remember others' names and use it when you speak with them etc. It had the feeling of going off on tangents that don't specifically relate to finding your calling. The chapters that did speak to finding your calling were also material commonly found elsewhere - write a list of the things you enjoy, write a list of the things you dont enjoy, steer towards the things you enjoy..... The performance on the audiobook was suitable but I'd recommend to others to start with another title if they're looking for helping figure out a calling / career plan.
