Their lives are changed irrevocably when Chebron accidentally kills his sister's cat, an animal sacred to the Egyptians -- an offence punishable by death. When Chebron's father is killed by an angry mob, the boys and their companions decide to make the long and dangerous journey to the land of Rebus, where they will be out of reach of their enemies. Set in Ancient Egypt, circa 1350 B.C.
