Emerson Waverly and Detective Jennifer Milner have much more in common than one would believe. Both of them are stuck in the city of Toledo, Ohio, living a life that neither of them want as single women. 

However, Emerson doesn't want to be a single woman; she wants her boyfriend, Xavior, back. After suffering from her fourth miscarriage in four years, Xavior decides that he doesn't want to be a part of her life anymore, leaving her to deal with the heartbreak of losing another child on her own. Four months later, she discovers that Xavior has been living a secret life on the other side of town, and all she can do is make him pay for his many transgressions against her. 

Detective Milner is a single mom trying to raise her teenage daughter on her own, and to navigate a new reality when her daughter's father shows up after 10 years and demands to get visitation with her daughter. Her life begins to spiral down further when a secret affair with her captain becomes public knowledge among her fellow officers, destroying her reputation at work and turning her into the laughing stock of the precinct. With her anger-riddled partner, Joe, at her side, she must figure out how to let go of the anger that her ex left behind, fix her reputation, and keep her head in the game so she can solve heinous murders.

After discovering a pregnant woman's dead body on the floor of Xavior's home, with no baby in sight, it's up to Detective Milner to find the killer and figure out their next steps. But when the killer is revealed and their issues hit so close to home, will Jennifer Milner be able to solve the case through an objective lens?
