The follow-up to the number one smash hit The Coldest Case: A Black Book Audio Drama.

Someone is committing random murders across Chicago—and making sure detectives Billy Harney (Aaron Paul) and Patti Harney (Krysten Ritter) are first on the crime scene. What connects the victims, and why is the killer leaving clues behind with each body? Billy and Patti are scrambling to stop the next killing when their father, Chief of Detectives Dan Harney (Beau Bridges), is kidnapped. But in their race to track him down, they uncover pieces of his past that simply can’t be true. Could their own flesh and blood be covering up a dark secret?

James Patterson does it again with the latest entry in the Billy Harney Thriller series. It’s a simple story and an easy listen. Great dramatization with a strong cast. The story was all told at the beginning so it didn’t really build up to a dramatic climax, so was reliant on the voice actors pulling it altogether.

Well picked cast

Billy and Patty’s performance were again incredible. It felt so real and natural. The characters just come alive with the voices. I did not feel overjoyed about the storyline. A killer is a killer (chief if detectives) and should face Justice not only his word that he has been atoning for the mistake. The law is the law and your position should not make you above it

Super performance

This is the first time that I've indulged in a James Patterson book and I quite like his writing! I found the book entertaining, engaging and I loved the twists and turns.

The all star cast was great for this narration and I'm a big fan of all the sound effects giving a more encompassing feel for the story.

I plan to listen to more of this series.

Aaron Tracy and Ryan Silbert - writing a television screenplay-like radioplay using James Patterson characters - deliver a breakneck-paced crime thriller about revenge. Twin brother-sister Chicago PD Detectives Billy and Patti Harney investigate and work to rescue their abducted dad, retired Chief of Detectives Dan Harney. A convoluted case from 40 years past inspires a murderous plot to destroy the Harney family.
The twisty-turny case captivates - but holes in logic and eye rolling improbability are almost overwhelming. It is fortunate that the authors move the story along so fast that readers/listeners don't have time to consider the stoopid before the next scene is underway.

Also fortuitously for consumers: the full cast - featuring Aaron Paul, Krysten Ritter, and Beau Bridges - is outstanding. Even cameo comedian Patton Oswalt is impressive (despite some stilted written dialogue).
Ambient sounds, incidental music, and sound effects are furthermore impeccable (although Audible Originals sound engineers suppress the volume of gunshots and the occasional explosion for some reason).

Altogether, the unrelenting pacing and unimpeachable performance quality largely make up for the deficiencies in 'The Past Has A Long Memory'. The recording rates 6 stars out of 10.

Implausible. Well-acted.
