I adored this memoir. I have both read it and listened to it on audio. Though I recommend both, I really appreciated hearing Chaudhry read her own story.

As a non-Muslim South Asian woman, I found so many points of connection with Chaudhry's story. I hope non-Muslim readers don't shy away from picking up this book. This book is for all of us. Whether she's sharing personal struggles that are specific to her Muslim upbringing, or universal human struggles, as a reader I was engaged at every step of the way. She also spends sections of this novel illustrating how colonization has left a mark on generations of family members. These sections are also for all of us, as we all have been shaped by colonization in one way or another.
