À propos de cet audio

Introducing Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope.

The Crow Trap is the first book in Ann Cleeves’s Vera Stanhope series – which is now a major ITV detective drama starring Brenda Blethyn, Vera.

Everyone has something to hide . . .

Three very different women come together at an isolated cottage on the North Pennines to complete an environmental survey. Three women who each know the meaning of betrayal . . .

Rachael, the team leader, is still reeling after a double betrayal by her lover and boss. Anne, a botanist, sees the survey as a chance to indulge in a little deception of her own. And then there is Grace, a strange, uncommunicative young woman, hiding plenty of her own secrets.

Rachael is the first to arrive at the cottage, but when she gets there she is shocked to discover an apparent suicide. But then another death occurs, and a fourth woman enters the picture – the unconventional Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope, who must piece together the truth from these women’s tangled lives . . .

The multiple characters narration, bring the story to life. Vera is so lovable, and curmudgeonly.

Impeccable performance

Fantastic tale, as usual by Ann Cleeves. I especially loved how the characters were developed in the beginning. Lots of twists and turns and possibilities… Still surprised me in the end!

Excellent!!

Very well narrated. If, like me, you have watched the 13 seasons of Vera before you read this first book you will have to suspend that TV format to be able to enjoy the story as it is. It's a very different layout and much less Vera in this first novel than the show. However, it is well written and a great mystery. All the things we enjoy about Vera are there, her keen mind, her intrusiveness, ascerbic dealings with her officers; and poor eating habits; but also her empathy, intuitive instincts and holding herself accountable. We get snippets of her back story and health issues which bring some humour. She's a fantastic officer and it's good to see her in the early days of being a DI. In this book we get a lot more story about the main characters of the murder plot before Vera enters the stage, which I enjoyed. A great read and start to the series.

Great Introduction to Vera Stanhope
