The stories of Theodore Roosevelt and of the individual Rough Riders are compelling and interesting. This book's biggest flaw is in applying modern notions to the late 19th century instead of simply telling the stories and letting them stand on their own. That being said, I like that the author took time to explain the different viewpoints that existed at the time and his descriptions of the conditions on the ground were also well done. 3/5
