Description
It is the autumn of 1880, and Dr. John Watson has just returned from Afghanistan. Badly injured and desperate to forget a nightmarish expedition that left him doubting his sanity, Watson is close to destitution when he meets the extraordinary Sherlock Holmes, who is investigating a series of deaths in the Shadwell district of London. Several bodies have been found, the victims appearing to have starved to death over the course of several weeks, and yet they were reported alive and well mere days before. Moreover, there are disturbing reports of creeping shadows that inspire dread in any who stray too close.
Holmes deduces a connection between the deaths and a sinister drug lord who is seeking to expand his criminal empire. Yet both he and Watson are soon forced to accept that there are forces at work far more powerful than they could ever have imagined. Forces that can be summoned, if one is brave - or mad - enough to dare …

Unexpectedly Enjoyable
I was not and am not an HP Lovecraft fan. I have never read, or listened, to anything by that writer (being only vaguely aware of him as a writer and only incidentallyaware of the type/style of stories due to secondary sources ). But when I saw a story with Sherlock mixed in (and included in audible titles) I thought why not, I'll try it. It turned out to be a great listen. Great voice acting and the story was interesting. Although I don't think I'll read or listen to an HP Lovecraft story itself, the combination with Sherlock Holmes Style storytelling was interesting. I ended up thoroughly enjoying it. Highly recommend it!

Fun mashup
This story was fun. Not sure it would appeal to hardline Sherlock Holmes fans nor hardline Lovecraft fans, but for me as a fan of both properties, it was fun. The narrator was incredible.

Very enjoyable
I was wondering how this was going to be and very happy that I started this one. Different from the titles I usually go for in a sense but very similar in another.

Not a Sherlock Holmes story.
An odd one. The plot is a goofy fantasy adventure. Disappointing if is expecting a Sherlock Holmes detective story or mystery story. The characterization of Watson is particularly weak and one dimensional.
Excellent narration though.

A must read
this book is good from top to bottom. voice acting, story, pace, characters. it left me the desire to know what happens next

What the ?!??! Obtuse pipe dream. Literally. 😳
Dream sequence whatever you like and move to the latter half of the book. Think HG Wells in the Time Machine….. for page fillers.
Not my cuppa. I was looking for a British turn of the century mystery.

I like this type of Sherlock!
Sherlock man of science and supernatural. It’s definitely different from the science and deduction Sherlock we know but this is definitely a fun story!
