Description

My name is Oliver Arsen, but my mates call me Ollie.

I live hard and love harder, and it's love that usually gets me in the most trouble. According to the greater population, I'm the ultimate jerk. My affection tends to be short-lived - a quality I've been assured multiple times by the fairer sex isn't becoming - and the leaving part of loving and leaving has always come natural.

At least, it used to.

Until her.

Luciana Wright.

She's an American bombshell and my sister's best friend - a woman so wrong for me, it's written in the waves. And she's the reason we're all here. The reason I have to go back to explain how it all went wrong.

To the day the jerk started falling.

Laughter, chuckles and sighs

SIGGGGHHHH....and its not a good sigh either. The intentional way this Duel was written and read with the odd laughter, sighs, grunts were just as annoying as in Book 1, maybe a little more so but still why???

In both books, the story could've been pleasant but these sound add ons became distracting to be able to appreciate the actually story. I honestly couldn't decipher why production and the author decided this was the way this was to be read. The fake laughter and the weird placement of heavy sighs increasingly worsened the listening experience. It actually made Ollie obnoxious then making the character arrogant and cringe worthy. Ollie's laugh doesn't exude confidence to his seriousness without questioning his genuineness.

Then there is the ridiculousness of Lucky. What an irritable woman!!! How old are you...REALLY!?! Her actions should have landed her in JAIL.

If it were not for my curiosity, to know how Lucky and Ollie faired this duel would've found it deleted from the library.

Redemption were it not for the weird chuckles

Though there was still the laughter at odd moments throughout the story that was distracting at times and completely misplaced, it wasn’t nearly as hard to listen to as in the first novel. I’m still confused as to why the laughter was there in those times, but for the most part Channing was able to make it seem less awkward than his female counterpart from the first novel. It’s unfortunate that the author put those chuckles in, were it not for that this series was heartfelt and the performances were sublime.

Disappointed

The laughter is REALLY annoying and distracting.
The story needs adjusting. This is supposed to be the 2nd half of the audiobook instead the author is back telling us a story we already know. It feels like the first 2 hours are a waste of time for the ones who listened to the fist audiobook.

Oh Ollie....

I was so looking forward to the second part of this duet. Very believable as a guy's (read Jerk's) perspective, and I like Ollie as a character. Add to that how open his expressions of affection are, and who wouldn't be rooting for him to win? Rupert Channing does a great job with the narration with one exception: the Laughter. For real. I know that this book is designed to read as a podcast. There are literally spots that have "chuckle" added as a direction in the ebook. but the chuckles sound a bit more like maniacal laughter than would be natural even in a scripted podcast. there are a few spots where it comes out more naturally, but it really took me out of the narrative most of the time he laughed. I had a similar issue with Charlotte North's narration in book 1, but other than that it was pretty enjoyable. This is the second half of a duet, not a standalone, and as Ollie's character says, you will understand better if you listen to "The day I stopped falling for Jerks" first. The podcast format adds flavour to what could have just been a straight "enemies to lovers" story. It doesn't allow for any in depth character development, but it's fun.
