I suppose you could say I was a voyeur and what I was doing was wrong, criminal even. But I’d suggest that no hot-blooded man could resist a look after finding peepholes behind the walls of Wychwood. Through the peepholes I saw my most secret desires playing out before my eyes. One of the gents I watched was deliciously handsome with brooding stormy eyes and darling black curls. So taken was I that he haunted my dreams. I knew the comely young man only by a number, 27 as none of the queer fellows who attended Wychwood gave their names.
27 didn’t know I existed.
But when I saw how he got into trouble with a violent partner, I didn’t think twice about rushing to his aid. It was in my nature to help him...even if it cost me my job... and my heart.
This book is a gay historical romance with voyeurism, dub-con, upper/lower classes romance, a dastardly villain, revenge, and a HEA.

The writing style was entirely in first person.
The story was told as if the main character was giving a witness statement in which every possible detail is given incase it is somehow important. Unfortunately, most of the detail given was not important and what with how much there was, tended to distracting.
I hate to sound so negative as it seemed like the author really had a whole vivid world living in her mind and just wanted to share exactly what she’d been imagining.
For me personally though, it came off a bit like the book equivalent of ‘telling’ instead of ‘showing’.
As a disclaimer though, I am INCREDIBLY picky about what I do and do not like in media.
TW/Spoilers: I will have to go back and check if there is anything in the description section for this book but incase there isn’t, the major plot points of this book all revolve around sexual violence and grooming.
Most of it is only referred to but there is a scene very early on in which a character is being sexually exploited and the protagonist doesn’t realize what he’s seeing and gets off on it.
I didn’t check for warnings before starting the book and this was not a pleasant surprise (if there are warnings then my bad, otherwise this review can hopefully serve as that)
A history of every tree in the forest…
