We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at baby showers and work events, brunch and book club, graduations and funerals. Yet no one ever questions alcohol’s ubiquity—in fact, the only thing ever questioned is why someone doesn’t drink. It is a qualifier for belonging and if you don’t imbibe, you are considered an anomaly. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some kind of magic elixir, though it is anything but.

I finished the book today and nearing the end, I had a little cry of joy while walking, listening with ear buds. I knew I wanted to quit a year or more ago but was convinced that SURELY when he says “there’s never a good time to quit, don’t delay it” he didn’t mean a world wide pandemic… but alas, it only feeds my stress, anxiety, and on top kills my immune system. Things I need pretty badly under control right now.
Allen Carr got me to quit smoking a decade ago (a pack a day for ~7 years) and the son of a bitch got me again! Thank you!
