À propos de cet audio

Edgar Hill is 35 and caught in his own headlock. Overweight slob, underperforming husband, and reluctant father - for Ed, the world may as well have already ended. So when it does end in a catastrophic asteroid strike and Edgar and his family find refuge in an Edinburgh army barracks, it comes as something of a relief.

But nothing's ever that simple. Returning from a salvage run in the city, Edgar finds his family gone, taken to the south coast for evacuation by an international task force. Suddenly he finds himself facing a grueling journey on foot across a devastated United Kingdom. Edgar must race against time and overcome his own shortcomings, not to mention hundred-mile canyons and a heavily flooded west coast, to find the people he loves before he loses them forever.

This is a vivid, gripping story of hope, long-distance running, and how we break the limits of our own endurance.

I thought this was an awesome story. Great detail, imagery, and nail biting moments.
Sometimes a character would be speaking so softly I had to crank up the volume to hear over ambient noise only for the next character to be shouting at a deafening level. While I can appreciate that it adds a layer of realism I found it jarring to listen to at times.

Great story, volume changes jarring.

I very often think an end of the world event may happen. I enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions described going through the endeavour of crossing the country on foot without shelter water or food most of the time.

Did not like the ending. Book was harrowing, desperate, interesting, engaging. What happened tho? Left things unfinished and without a sequel. Disappointed in this.

I tackled this read during my long runs, and the pacing of the book worked remarkably well for each effort.

The story begins in the days prior to the 'end of the world' with a haunting feel at first. I wasn't sure what I was getting into, and then we settled into the survival story and eventual running club.

I had a great time with the story, and found some of the more harrowing moments in the book as a motivator to endure in my own efforts. It's a longer title than it needs to be - but long runs have that feel to them as well.

Overall it’s a fine story… but the audio volume is all over the place… loud and then normal and then screaming and then slightly lower than a whisper. This ruined the entire experience.
