This is necessary reading for anyone wishing to understand the seemingly complex yet actually simple reality taking place in Palestine.

I would highly recommend reading Rashid Khalidi’s The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine first.

Fantastically researched. My only criticism is that I wish it didn’t jump back and forth in time but I think for the point of the book, it was necessary. Pappe even learned Arabic in order to get the full stories from the Palestinians. Although difficult in content, this is extremely important to bear witness to how the Zionists weaponized their trauma against another population. We must bear witness and reconcile the fact that the truth has been deliberately obscured from us. 10/10 read (or listen)

I discovered this book in 2025 at the age of 50, and I am ashamed that it took me this long to understand the root of the problems between Israel and Palestine or indeed the entire Middle East crisis. This book was written by a Jew who was a professor of history in Israel and who has unveiled the naked truth behind the Zionist ideology: cleanse Palestine of the Palestinians and take over their land for Israel. For nearly 80 years Israel has claimed to be the victims of hatred and terrorist attacks in the Middle East yet they were the ones who introduced terror to the Middle East. It is so sad to see how the Jews who were the victims of one of the worst atrocities in the 20th century have become the monsters terrorizing another ethnic group. The dreams of the Zionists from 1948 are coming true today as Israel destroys Gaza and displaces millions of people in Gaza and the West Bank. The whole world is watching in June 2025 as Israel enacts another catastrophe on the Palestinians. This is a very sad story but at last history is repeating itself today as I write this

very insightful and honest look at the history of Israel by a Jewish author. to me the capacity to honestly look at the history of ones country deserves a tremendous amount of respect.
if we had more courageous people like him, we would not have wars. I am inspired and hope to be able to bring this courage and honestly into my life.
