Overall great and captivating story and performed beautifully!! This review would have been 5 stars no doubt if it wasn’t for the Heath and Bella spin off…it felt unnecessary and unrelatable. Nevertheless, love Layne Fargo’s work!

I bought this audiobook based on an online recommendation, and good reviews. I was pleasantly surprised! It was more engrossing than I expected it to be. The main characters were so well drawn, Katerina in particular. What a great character! I took away a star because there were one or two eye rolling moments where I felt like our protagonist had too many hardships at the height of the most important moments of her life. Overall, a great book!

Love love love! The push and pull between Katarina and Heath was everything! I laughed, I questions, I CRIED!!

A MUST LISTEN

I am deeply ambivalent about this one. The production value is very good. The pacing of the narrators moves the listening experience along nicely; so, I have no real complaints in the performance category. It's the overall impact or listening pleasure that I cannot separate from the things that I find deeply irritating about the story. Spoiler: this " romance" doesn't really have a Happily Ever After or a Happy for Now ending which should disqualify it as a romance. On top of that, the melodrama is incredibly thick here, which normally doesn't disable me from being able to enjoy a book but there's something about the " layout" that is both addictive and incredibly irritating. I've seen this book reviewed as a cross between Daisy Jones and.... and the interview style of a documentary around a controversial champion Ice Dance Figure Skating team that don't participate in the documentary, and the actual relationship story is told from the FMC's POV as well as some insights given by secondary characters. The problem is that although the MMC speaks , there is no internal dialog for him. We never understand why he does the incredibly harmful things he does to the main romantic relationship. Mariana Zapparta handles the internal chatter of her female characters in a far more intelligible fashion. There's too much her, even though there's much to dislike about the heroine ( and maybe a bit to be admired by some listeners, just not me). The balance of FMC and MMC is just irritating. I don't leave reviews that are less than 5 stars, and it really pisses me off that this audiobook inspired leaving this review. Apologies all around.

Unless you like ice dancing then please don’t read. Spoiler alert…… if you like a strong female lead who accepts an absolutely unworthy/betraying/lying piece of $&@& for a partner then by all means, enjoy this read
