À propos de cet audio

Detective Porter and the team have been pulled from the hunt for Anson Bishop, the Four Monkey Killer, by the feds. When the body of a young girl is found beneath the frozen waters of Jackson Park Lagoon, she is quickly identified as Ella Reynolds, missing three weeks. But how did she get there? The lagoon froze months earlier. More baffling? She's found wearing the clothes of another girl, missing less than two days.

While the detectives of Chicago Metro try to make sense of the quickly developing case, Porter secretly continues his pursuit of 4MK, knowing the best way to find Bishop is to track down his mother. When the captain finds out about Porter's activities, he's suspended, leaving his partners, Clair and Nash, to continue the search for the new killer alone.

Obsessed with catching Bishop, Porter follows a single grainy photograph from Chicago to the streets of New Orleans and stumbles into a world darker than he could have possibly imagined, where he quickly realizes that the only place more frightening than the mind of a serial killer is the mind of the mother from which he came.

Too much revisiting the police information on the victims, too repetitive. Otherwise I really like the story

Enjoying the storyline

Part Two in Barker’s “Four Monkey Killer” series sees Sam Porter and his team yanked off the 4MK case, with Porter suspended. While the FBI takes over, Porter’s motley crew begins hunting down a new serial killer…who might be a copycat, or might just be 4MK in disguise. While Porter bounces between Chicago, New Orleans and Carolina, getting in too deep behind the feds’ backs, the rest of the team must stop a psychotic new villain while the FBI gets closer and closer to 4MK.

This one has a LOT of moving parts and it moves fast: there’s over 130 rapid-fire chapters from almost a dozen different viewpoints, and with two villains and multiple people hunting them down…it could get complicated, but Barker is amazing at sweeping epics with a huge cast of characters. A lot of questions get answered and many new ones get thrown in your face, and the cliffhanger was thrilling. My only beef is that one extra twist got thrown in that made me say “FFS that’s enough,” but I look forward to see how Barker continues spinning the hundred or so plates that make up Det. Sam Porter’s universe.

And once again, Ballerini is a great lead narrator, with Winton doing his disturbing best to bring 4MK’s diaries to life.

I rarely ever don’t finish a book but I just couldn’t with this one. I’m so disappointed because I loved the first.
But halfway through, there’s no mystery and it’s ALL the parts of the first book I didn’t care for (over-the-top, unbelievable things like scaling the ledge of the building, bombs, kidnapping, guns, knives, mafia, etc all in two days in the life of a so-so lawyer).
It’s just gratuitous violence and unrealistic action.
It makes me remember why I prefer UK and Canadian authors.

Can’t finish
