Description

In this pioneering examination of the scientific principles behind success, a leading researcher reveals the surprising ways in which we can turn achievement into success.

Too often, accomplishment does not equate to success. We did the work but didn't get the promotion; we played hard but weren't recognized; we had the idea but didn't get the credit. We've always been told that talent and a strong work ethic are the key to getting ahead, but in today's world, these efforts rarely translate into tangible results. Recognizing this disconnect, Laszlo Barabasi, one of the world's leading experts on the science of networks, uncovers what success really is: a collective phenomenon based on the thoughts and praise of those around you.

In The Formula, Barabasi highlights the vital important of community respect and appreciation when connecting performance to recognition - the elusive link between performance and success. By leveraging the power of big data and historic case studies, Barabasi reveals the unspoken rules behind who truly gets ahead and why and outlines the 12 laws that govern this phenomenon and how we can use them to our own advantage.

Unveiling the scientific principles that drive success, this trailblazing audiobook offers a new understanding of the very foundation of how people excel in today's society.

Ce que les critiques disent

"This is not just an important but an imperative project: to approach the problem of randomness and success using the state of the art scientific arsenal we have. Barabasi is the person." (Nassim Nicholas Taleb, author of the New York Times best-selling The Black Swan and distinguished professor of risk engineering at NYU)

"Laszlo Barabasi is an extraordinary scientist who has enjoyed great success. He brings to bear all of his capacity as the former to understand the latter - to our great benefit. Writing in a lively fashion, he illuminates broad principles that explain how people in all fields - from entrepreneurs to scientists to athletes to artists - achieve success. The insights are novel and useful, and backed not just by vivid stories, but also by the sorts of detailed and inventive scientific analyses, plainly explained, for which Barabasi is rightly famous." (Nicholas Christakis, coauthor of Connected and the Sol Goldman Family professor of social and natural science at Yale University)

"Barabasi will indelibly transform the way we all think about success." (Alex Pentland, author of Social Physics and Toshiba professor at MIT)

In the name of preferential attachment...

Great listen that elicited multiple "stay in your car listening until this section is over" moments. Some of the case studies cited were compelling enough for my future reference that I picked up a physical copy of the book as well.

An excellent scientific breakdown of the topic.

Provides scientific back up to the actual mechanics of success. Confirms some lesser known phenomenon, that contribute to what we think of when we call a person "successful." Highly recommend.

brilliant and relevant content.

suffice it to say that it open my eyes, educated me and gave me a more grounded concept of what success is and how it is achieved. For my self, It was a process of stepping away from the mysticism that surrounds success and being able to understand the fundamentals that actually create it. when we understand the things that actually fuel success it can assist us in investing time and energy where most appropriate. there is a lot of content in this book and I would recommend listening to it more than once. that is what I intend to do.

Formidably and Simple to Understand

It gives hopes when you understand the lows of success. The way the laws are explained and the results of success is chockling, but it makes a lit of sense. I enjoyed this audiobook.

Outstanding!

This is my encounter with Barabasi’s work. He is quite brilliant and I look forward to listening to and reading more of his work soon.

The Formula is a must read for anyone in a creative discipline and for those that value innovation in work or life.

One of the best books in my Audible collection (of around 120 non-fiction books) and likely the best book I have read on explaining the how, why, and when of how we find success in work and life.
