The town is named after the wife of Governor George Simpson, Lady Frances Simpson. During one of his visits through Rainy Lake.
It was quite an inspiration after reading this amazingly account of those 20 years, 200 years ago. I also recommend Astoria, another book related to this very Interesting and historic period of our two countries.
