This is an infuriating co-optation (in the sense of appropriating an idea as one's own) of a vital idea -- that Earth is a living organism -- at a time of unprecedented urgency. The author is using the phrase "Gaia Hypothesis" (coined by atmospheric scientist James Lovelock to postulate that the biosphere acts as a self-regulating, cohesive whole) in an entirely different way than intended or popularly understood. The author spoon-feeds vaguely Judeo-Christian, spiritualistic drivel to people desperately seeking answers that might guide us away from global ecological collapse and human extinction. Instead of such guidance, we receive preachy and dreamy condescension. Do not waste a second on this book.
