À propos de cet audio

In the year 2130 a mysterious spaceship, Rama, arrived in the solar system. It was huge, but empty - apparently abandoned. By the time Rama departed for its next unknown destination many wonders had been uncovered, but few mysteries solved. Only one thing was clear: everything the enigmatic builders of Rama did, they did in threes.

Eighty years later the second alien craft arrived in the solar system. This time, Earth had been waiting. Now Rama II is on its way out of the solar system. Aboard it are three humans, two men and a woman, left behind when the expedition departed. Ahead of them lies the unknown, a voyage no human has ever experienced; and at the end of it may lie the truth about Rama.

Arthur C. Clarke was born in Minehead in 1917. During the Second World War he served as an RAF radar instructor, rising to the rank of Flight-Lieutenant. After the war he won a BSc in physics and mathematics with first class honours from King's College, London. One of the most respected of all science-fiction writers, he also won Kalinga Prize, The Aviation Space-Writers' Prize and the Westinghouse Science Writing Prize. He shared an Oscar nomination with Stanley Kubrick for the screenplay of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was based on his story, 'The Sentinel'. He lived in Sri Lanka from 1956 until his death in 2008.

Didn’t like the narration. Story is alright. First book is the best thus far. Wish they used the same narrator as the first book.

Narrator is annoying as hell

The story itself is great, but I could have done without the racism. The ableism (calling Benji a “retard” over and over) is more of a product of its time, but I don’t remember hearing those racist words being bandied about so flagrantly in the 90s outside of gangster rap.

I have a feeling that it’s the parts Gentry Lee had a bigger part in, because neither of the previous books in the series had this much of it. Hoping for less of it in book 4.

Could have done without the racism and ableism

i really enjoyed the the first book, but this one, fall a bit short. The main character made me felt often angry toward her weird decisions.

Mixted feelings

I continue to enjoy the series, and feel compelled to uncover more mysteries of Rama.

I do find that I tire of the human politics involved, but at the same time, I appreciate the approach at presenting a reasonably realistic representation of how a civilian of this sort might develope.

I love learning more about Rama, and the races in this universe. That is where I think the series continues to shine, and I wish to learn more.

Love the sci-fi more than the poli-fi.

Maybe the last 3rd of the book feels like a continuation of the series but way too much focus on incest related saving humanity of humanity but with out the need to? Or children marrying old men? Just skip it.

Also feel like the publisher gave up. A few instances of repeated sentences.

Yea. Skip most of the book

I’m not really sure how to rate this. Part of this book is fantastic. Then part of it is like reading a sexual deviants Sci-Fy perspective. I finally stopped reading it because of this. Not at all what an Arthur C Clarke book should be like. Terribly disappointed and would never recommend this book to anyone.

This book ruined the series

Awful narration, and the story Is less fiction than a long and boring drama. The characters we follow from the previous book are not developed in a way to make you care about their plight. The story moves forward in a excruciating slow pace. One on the few books I couldn't finish.

could not even finish

Although this audiobook is indeed well performed, the book itself is just awful. Takes away everything that is interesting about the Rama series and replaces it with naive social commentary. Takes away strong characters and replaces them with barely functional idiots. I could go on for longer, but all you need to know is to avoid this. I only finished it in hopes that book 4 will be better. I could hardly imagine that it could be any worse.

Enormously disappointing

I like the description of the node. The beginning was boring and I really got tired of the descriptive sexuality. Science fiction? Did not sound like Arthur C. Clarke at all.

The underage sexuality
