Description

My favorite clean historical writer
Her novels are intelligent. Her characters wed early in most books, and while they do at some point under no detail consummate their unions, these books are better for it because it’s not the constant pining and ridiculous ploys other authors use to keep their characters apart sexually.
You feel gratified in the romance at a much earlier point even tho there is angst and smart plot twists only an author of great caliber could manage while keeping the novel clean.
I absolutely love how she writes. Her vocabulary and uncommon as well as era appropriate choice of words stamps Ms. Vetsch as an up and comer who with continued endeavour could rival the great Judith McNaught, minus the sex us clean readers aren’t looking for. This is the highest praise I could give an author, and have never said so about another writer.
In all her work I think she could use a little more research into the time period and its customs. In this novel, the new Duke laments in the first 2 minutes the birth of a girl instead of an heir.
But spoiler alert****
The father and eldest son died together, with the eldest son’s wife pregnant. The child’s father was not yet the Duke, and even if he had been, the title automatically passes to the next LIVING male relative. The younger son in this case, not an unknown unborn child.
In another novel, and I’ll put it here to save a spoiler, lords could not be tried in regular courts before magistrates. They were tried by their peers of the realm in a separate court that was made up of titled lords only, convened when needed.
So the only thing I can say to or for Erica’s books, if she’s checking, is knowing a little about the processes of the time would add authenticity to your stories and make them water tight.
I’ve been writing, and published by a publishing house (not self published) for 30 years. I know how hard it is to craft and weave a tale without missing anything, and you are remarkable.
