I have never heard of a story like this
Kind of an odd sort of story. It took several chapters to get into but it was so good. It was different than what I usually listen to which is ww11 stories . I learned a lot about the dreariness and poverty and hardships of post ww11. 18 months after the war it was still so terrible for the people Just think no sex scenes no profanity just plain great story. She didn’t need fillers cause she had a story to tell. Too bad many other authors have to use sex and profanity and gratuitous violence to interest patrons

Didn’t want to finish
This book was captivating and intriguing. Lisa Flanagan is an incredible narrator who has the ability to capture the listener by her many different voices for different characters. I love World War II books and this one had a different storyline than normal. Someone feeling guilty for the actions that she had taken with her family. A must read or listen to. I have already suggested this to two avid readers in about the first hour of listening to it. Very entertaining. I didn’t want it to end.

Uncomfortable
I am going to have to go back and read more reviews. The book seems to have a lot of good ones, but I’m uncomfortable. I’m only on chapter 3, but I feel like the author wants me to sympathize with a wealthy “misunderstood”nazi. She’s wanted for questioning for war crimes, but she’s misunderstood???
I can’t do it. It is making me sick.

Worst book ever
This has to be the stupidest book I’ve ever listened to. Unfortunately, I bought it before reading any reviews. It started off with such promise.....for maybe 30 minutes. I forced myself to finish it, but it was painful.

Wonderful Story

Plot is GOOOD!!
The plot of the novel is gooood!!! I couldn't stop reading, I hope in the future it will turn into a film series. Elisa should have a novel of her own to know her better!

Engaging historical fiction
A truly well written and engaging historical fiction set in post WW2 Germany. A story about choices, consequences and conscience. Really enjoyed listening.
