Description

At last, the full story behind Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman's epic romance, including stories, portraits, and the occasional puzzle, all telling the smoldering tale that has fascinated Hollywood for over a decade.

The year: 2000. The setting: Los Angeles. A gorgeous virtuoso of an actress had agreed to star in a random play, and a basement-dwelling scenic carpenter had said he would assay a supporting role in the selfsame pageant. At the first rehearsal, she surveyed her fellow cast members, as one does, determining if any of the men might qualify to provide her with a satisfying fling. Her gaze fell upon the carpenter, and like a bolt of lightning, the thought struck her: No dice. Moving on.

Yet, unbeknownst to our protagonists, Cupid had merely set down his bow and picked up a rocket launcher. Then fired a love rocket (not a euphemism). The players were Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman, and the resulting romance, once it ignited, was... epic. Beyond epic. It resulted in a coupling that has endured to this day; a sizzling, perpetual tryst that has captivated the world with its kindness, athleticism, astonishingly low-brow humor, and true (fire emoji) passion.

How did they do it? They came from completely different families, endured a significant age difference, and were separated by the gulf of several social strata. Megan loved books and art history; Nick loved hammers. But much more than these seemingly unsurpassable obstacles were the values they held in common: respect, decency, the ability to mention genitalia in almost any context, and an abiding obsession with the songs of Tom Waits.

Eighteen years later, they're still very much in love, and have finally decided to reveal the philosophical mountains they have conquered, the lessons they've learned, and the myriad jigsaw puzzles they've completed, in an audiobook. Featuring anecdotes, hijinks, interviews, photos, and a veritable grab bag of tomfoolery, this is not only the intoxicating audiobook that Mullally's and Offerman's fans have been waiting for, it might just hold the solution to the greatest threat facing our modern world: the single life.

Not interesting

A profound overuse of the terms “salt-of-the-earth” and “uncanny.”

Overall it’s just annoying. It reminded me of when people insist on showing you their family photo albums..... only this time it lasts for over six hours. Seriously, there's a chapter where they describe childhood photos of themselves. It would be interesting to nobody except the two authors.

It doesn't even really tell their love story. It just talks about their backgrounds for a very long time, they stroke each others egos, and then at the end they list a bunch of stuff they don't like. This book adds nothing to the world and isn't funny.

The Second Greatest Love Story Ever Told

I could write the Second Greatest Love Story Ever Told about my love for this book. It’s a wonderful story, narrated by the most charismatic couple around. Basically, if you have a problem with this book, that says more about the quality of you than the quality of the book.

Not worth the read.

As much as I love Nick Offerman & as much much as I enjoyed "paddle your own canoe" this book was garbage. Unless your a Nick & Megan stalker you'll get nothing from this. It's legit just them having a casual conversation & rambling on about themselves. I gained nothing from this. I hesitate to read celeb bios cause they're the worst & this proved me right. I thought they'd have real world advice but no full chapters of them describing photos of themselves, talking about puzzles & riffling off completely random likes & dislikes I actually had to skip ahead a few times because it was sooooo insanely pointless. I'm pretty disappointed.

All I have to Offerman.

Thank you. My lady and I loved listening to this before bed. It often lead to a mouthful of puss. Kinda hard to complain......

Highly entertaining

Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman are sincere, entertaining, and at times hilarious as they allow the audience to listen to their bantering about their lives and love. Their chemistry is palpable, and it's obvious that they had a great time working on this project together.

Probably my favorite couple ever

Very enjoyable, I adore Megan and Nick, loved the listening experience. I think I'll still buy the book but I HAD to hear them read this themselves. Thank you Megan and Nick!

big ol meh

I loved Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption. This did not live up to it's predecessors. There were far too many "umm"s for any audiobook.

Not sure if I like or not.

It's like listening to a podcast (2 people chatting), more than reading from an already written book. I wonder what's actually in the book? A direct transcripts from their hours of chatting? And this doesn't come with the photos download!

Not my favorite

Imagine you are having dinner with two people you don't know. They talk nonstop for over six hours about themselves and you never get a word in. Sometimes they forget they told you something and so they tell you again. They are eager to share mundane details of their lives like, "I always loved to read." They back up this information with stories of going to the library and checking out books. That is how I felt listening to this book. I admit, I only got about a third of the way through. There are some funny tidbits. If there had been some serious editing, this could have been a solidly hilarious 45 minutes of a book. The six hour version is only for diehard fans of these two. If Jane and John Doe had recorded this same book it would not have gotten published.

Perfect comedy memoir audiobook

I think this is by far the best comedic memoir I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. And in audiobook format it is absolutely perfect; I can’t imagine enjoying this book any other way. Megan & Nick have far too great of chemistry to not hear them narrate. If you need a happy, hilarious book- get this one!! You can’t get any better!

Meh

I like both of these actors but I thought this book was boring and only marginally entertaining. As one reviewer mention, none of the pictures they talk about for 2 sections are available. Descriptions of photographs are tedious and do not make for fun reading. You feel like you’re in the back of the crowd and can’t see the show. Tina Fey found a way to include photographs. Maybe she could offer some suggestions. The book is presented so you almost feel like you’re sitting with them and listening to a spontaneous conversation, which I enjoyed. They came off a a little insufferable. I know their lives are nothing like mine and expected that. In between the few funny bits, they came across as preachy and spoiled. I really wanted to like the book but it just fell flat for me. As a couple who says they enjoy audio books, I would have thought they would have had catered a little more to others who also enjoys them.

Hostess Twinkie equivalent of a memoir

If you are looking for a deep, quality "memoir", you are in the wrong place. Go listen to Trevor Noah's incredibly moving and insightful memoir instead. Then come back and listen to this fun book.

Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman do as much riffing off each other as read their respective chapters. That will either thoroughly entertain you, or annoy you. If you are annoyed, you are not the right audience for this highly funny couple.

If you are a follower of them on social media, if you love their TV characters, you will have fun with this light, junk food snack of an audible book.

Sadly lacking

I don't know what I expected, maybe something a little funnier, a little more intimate, a little more "greatest love story?" It was just okay. The anecdotes and chapters were full of mediocre stories, though, the performance was like listening to a podcast, as if I was listening to a real time conversation with the two love birds, which I enjoyed.

Very Uneven

I think maybe I went into this with my expectations too high. I've seen them both performe in so many different ways and just generally love them together. And I think I still loved Offerman in this, but Mullaly was just not funny.something about her personality in this just grated on me. I think she's a fabulous performer and I love Karen Walker, Tammy 2, and other characters she's portrayed.

Not the greatest love story ever told

Listening to the book was more like listening to a podcast, which was different but not necessarily unpleasant- the whole time I kept thinking did they go through their actual book and make notes on how they can make the story into a conversation? So it was a little distracting that they acted like they had never heard the story the other person was telling.
It’s very bland- they spend a short amount of time on how they met and fell in love and more time talking about their individual upbringing and stories.
At the end of the day I stopped the book with 1 hour 20 min left (I kept waiting for it to get good) and I returned the book for a credit I can use on something else.

Not for me

It wasn’t what I was expecting! I only gave it over 10 minutes to be honest, and could not continue! I didn’t know it would be two people talking to one another and it was not interesting to me what they were saying! I wanted a love story, but a story, not two people saying things!!!

Great comedy memior

Megan and Nick are the perfect narrators, I wish they could narrate more books. It feels like you're listening to a casual conversation between them as you learn about their lives and love story.

If anyone was a good laugh and appreciates learning about other people, this is a great read!
