Great book!

A great, but Sad insight into the lives of normal people longing for freedom oppressed by a tyrannical, blood thirsty, fear mongering, government. Very educational and eye opening.

a must read

it's informative, you really get an idea of how they thought and how they behaved in that moment of time. It helps you to understand how ideology can take over.

Life changing

One cannot read this book and remain unmoved. The cruelty inflicted upon the cast of characters is unconscionable and sickening, but are the direct result of an ideology overtaking the minds and institutions of a country. I fear that while this may be the Russian/Soviet past, it is not so in the West. It may well be it’s future.
God save us from such a fate!

Communism does work

After reading the first two volumes I detoured and went to read Marx, just to make sure my understanding of his systems and intentions were understood.
The utopian vision of materialist progressives, that Darwin's theory means that if organized properly and through "systemic" restructuring, humans could be formed into a singularly motivated race all contributing to the same vision and conquer the galaxy. Similar to cells in a organism. Or like the Tower of Babel. Solzhenitsyn's work unequivocally details the nature, characteristics, and life cycle of such a system. And the system seems to work exactly as advertised.
The soviets were able to contend for the position of world's leading super power for far longer then any fascist system ever did. Moreover, no single person could manipulate the system too much, even the pre-frontal cortex (Stalin) of this organism could only make micro adjustments to the execution of the theory. His descriptions of the snake like bureaucratic system in which request and appeals had to travel is similar to how sensory organs break down input data and stream them to the necessary parts of the brain.
But just like in a organism, its survival depends on the constant death and rebirth of millions of cells on a regular basis. And the cells lack all ability to be individuals, to even think about such things would present a risk to the entire system. And just like inside our body, there can be no tolerance for such things.

I pray to God above that the West can heed the warnings and history of the East before we fall down the same evil, envious, and greed motivated path. The only difference between the fascist and the communist is that one decided that race was the binary in which all problems could be posited to one side or the other, and the other side decided that perceived wealth, status, and or privilege would be their binary. Both are equally wrong and evil, as well as overly simple ways of looking at the world. And thank God for his love for truth and for enabling people like Solzhenitsyn to preserve and let the truth be heard!

This Should Be Required Reading

The narrator to a few hours to get use to and really his reading was the only area of opportunity I could find. We've spent so much time and energy talking crap about the Nazis AND RIGHTLY SO but I am ashamed that our Leftist teachers, historians, media, and universities have not shown us how horrible communism is and was. Be very very careful because the stories in this series may be the future of America, if we are not careful. Just look at our Pravda style media today. Look at how they control the low information people. Look at how they can hide the crimes of the elite. If you are a parent, please listen to or read this book with your kids.

audible pls. go back to before

informative series. in depth with excellent narration. Bit off topic but I don't appreciate the new "surprise" infomer that has to let us know our "own" books which we clearly realize they are "broken" down being we users of audible were the ones that "downloaded" and paid for in the first place. I find it a major buzz kill at the end of every part to have to get startled by. also dont appreciate the new personalized good evening afternoons. seem phoney. annoying. now and intrusive

A Lesson in Evil, Philosophy and Psychology

Hitler's evil came at the world in a blitzkrieg that the west could not contain, Stalin's evil was a way of life for mostly Eastern Europe alone, and so the west chose to contain it.

The Ultimate Indictment of the Communist, Collectivist and Socialist

What an amazing book and an amazing man! We are so lucky he survived to write the book for the tens of millions murdered by Lenin, Stalin and their minions and protégés!

Well over 50 hours of audible and felt like it barely scratched the surface!

So topical for today’s times as it is easy to se the parallels in the socialists In-N-Out society.

Frederick Davidson’s voice is like music.
