À propos de cet audio

Trapped in her life as a servant in a magicless kingdom, Anslee yearns for the freedom she felt roaming the woods as a child. Convinced marrying a nobleman is her only way out, she should be ecstatic when she catches the eye of new-in-town Lord Avery Varrock. But this lord has brought more than riches to town - and his revelations will turn Anslee's life upside down.

When she finds the kingdom’s hidden crown – one with a hefty reward for returning it – the crown calls to her with magic that she swore didn’t exist. Anslee must find the courage to face the truth she has uncovered – or return to her hidden life.

Facing dangerous shadow beasts, lies and half-truths, set amidst dazzling palace balls, moody woods and woefully banal corridors, Anslee’s world becomes one where shadows are best left untouched and crowns should remain hidden.

In the YA Fantasy novel, The Hidden Crown, the author K.E. Blair presents a mash-up of various fairy tales mixed with a touch of flair in her own style. I found the colours and presentation of the cover artwork well done. I listened to the audiobook version of the book and felt the narrator, Danni Deguire performed a positive service to the story. The story itself was entertaining in some respects and although somewhat predictable, I am sure it will satisfy many readers of the genre. A stronger part of the book for me was the relationship and interaction between the main character, Anslee, and her palace kitchen supervisor Magda. I would consider reading Book 2 of this series to see if it could win me over a little more than the first did. I found the writing to be well done but for me the overall story left me wanting something more.
