À propos de cet audio

For the first time in its one-hundred-and-twenty-five-year history, the Arthur Conan Doyle Estate has authorized a new Sherlock Holmes novel.

Once again, The Game's Afoot...

London, 1890. 221B Baker St. A fine art dealer named Edmund Carstairs visits Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson to beg for their help. He is being menaced by a strange man in a flat cap - a wanted criminal who seems to have followed him all the way from America. In the days that follow, his home is robbed, his family is threatened. And then the first murder takes place.

Almost unwillingly, Holmes and Watson find themselves being drawn ever deeper into an international conspiracy connected to the teeming criminal underworld of Boston, the gaslit streets of London, opium dens and much, much more. And as they dig, they begin to hear the whispered phrase-the House of Silk-a mysterious entity that connects the highest levels of government to the deepest depths of criminality. Holmes begins to fear that he has uncovered a conspiracy that threatens to tear apart the very fabric of society.

The Arthur Conan Doyle Estate chose the celebrated, #1 New York Times bestselling author Anthony Horowitz to write The House of Silk because of his proven ability to tell a transfixing story and for his passion for all things Holmes. Destined to become an instant classic, The House of Silk brings Sherlock Holmes back with all the nuance, pacing, and almost superhuman powers of analysis and deduction that made him the world's greatest detective, in a case depicting events too shocking, too monstrous to ever appear in print...until now.

as a life long fan I have listened to the stories of sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his spirit truly lives on in the newest story. well done mr Horowitz...well done indeed, and in the same way Derek Jacobi brings Dr Watson to life in every word.

Sherlock Holmes at his best

Finished "house of Silk" thought it was good and immediately bought "Moriarity".
In M it feels like the narrator is reading the part, good but in HOS it feels as Jacobi is acting.
Maybe the English accent but strong recommend for HOS.
.
Edit:
Got thinking that "acting" could be read as derogatory.
Not as I meant.
but his "voice" would not have worked in the Moriarity read

Narrator makes it.

Horowitz captures Watson and Sherlock Holmes so masterfully that I forget I was not listening to or reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Derek Jacobi's reading was perfection. His voice and Horowitz's words had me spellbound throughout the story. Whether you're a Conan Doyle, Jacobi, or Horowitz fan, you'll find that this audiobook is for you. It is a thoroughly enjoyable whodunit.

Holy Batman, Sherlock Holmes!

If might not be fair to enter the review when I haven't finished the book yet, but I want to document my enthusiasm about this book.
I was introduced to Anthony Horowitz by his latest book, The Word is Murder, and I really enjoyed it. The plot twist was brilliant and maybe because I am novice to Mystery/Thriller genre, but I did not see that coming.
Then I was researching his other work, and this book came to my attention.
I'm still early in the book, but the case is getting more complicated.
Some of the description of deceased victims were very graphic and a bit much for me, but I was able to skim through and go to Sherlock's brilliant reasoning.
Hope I would be able to update my review once I'm finished.

*Spoiler alert*
When picking up a Sherlock Holmes style mystery I was not expecting gruesome torture / murder of children and a depressing storyline revolving around a pedophile ring.
Doesn't line up with the kind of Sherlock Holmes plots I was used to by Doyle. I guess I am not a tough enough mysterie/thriller reader, just looking for some interesting storyline, not shock and depression.
If there had been any indication of this in the book description, I would have definitely skipped this one.

Thanks, not for me

While Derek Jacobi is a wonderful narrator, he was wasted on this poor story. Don't waste a credit on this one.

Great narration but poor story
