Together, this volume and the earlier Market Square, remind me of Anthony Trollope’s Barchester Chronicles. Actually many of the Miss Read books have that quality of telling the story of one generation after another, as they choose between good and evil, and we watch the consequences unfold.
Excellent narration, although Gwen Watford is my favourite.
