À propos de cet audio
You probably haven't noticed them. But they've noticed you. They notice everything. That's their job. Sitting quietly in a nondescript car outside a bank making note of the tellers' work habits. Lagging a few car lengths behind the Brinks truck on its daily rounds. Surreptitiously jiggling the handle of an unmarked service door at the racetrack. They're heisters. They're pros, and Parker is far and away the best of them. Tough, smart, hardworking, and relentlessly focused on his trade, he is the heister’s heister, the robber’s robber, the heavy’s heavy. You don’t want to cross him, and you don’t want to get in his way, because he’ll stop at nothing to get what he’s after.
In The Hunter, the first volume in the series, Parker roars into New York City, seeking revenge on the woman who betrayed him and on the man who took his money, stealing and scamming his way to redemption.

Secondly, the narrator of this audio book is stellar! His voice work for each character was spot on (for the format)- from Parker, to Mal, to Carter, and Lynn; each voice distinctly represented the varied characters in this story.
I am looking forward to exploring more of Richard Stark's Parker novels!
Be it Parker, or Porter, this is one awesome, hard-boiled character!

It's frankly discouraging that there are 24 novels in the series - implying that the author found a formula and started disappointingly cranking out pulp - because the character is unique. The writing is competent, the plot (straight-up revenge) is intriguing, and the descriptions are excellent. Altogether, this book is a quintessential Noir Hard-Boiled Crime story - the atmosphere is distinctly dark with *zero* redeeming morality in any of the events or characters. It's a most unusual but undeniably entertaining read.
Less fortunately, John Chancer is a professional reader.. but unspectacular. Thankfully he avoids silly New Yawk accents (his voice-acting is commendable), but his timbre/cadence/tone is nothing special and he reads too slowly (I found setting playback speed at 1.15X yielded the best results). In toto, I rate the narration "adequate".
I wasn't intending to listen to any further audiobooks in the 'Parker' series - despite them being offered for free - but this 8/10 star effort convinced me to download Book Two (This character is so unusual, I am curious to see where Westlake/Stark can take him).
The twist on Crime Fiction demonstrated in the series may end up being unpalatable to you, but this first foray is worth a listen.. even if you're asked to spend money on it.
Incredibly Gritty. A Fascinating Protagonist.
