À propos de cet audio

Everything can change in a heartbeat....

The pulse-pounding new thriller from the best-selling author of You Don’t Know Me

Lainey’s friend Ellis is missing. And she’s not the only one.

In the six months since the first case of a terrifying new epidemic - when a healthy baby wouldn’t take a breath at birth - the country has been thrown into turmoil. The government has passed sweeping new laws to monitor all citizens. And several young pregnant women have vanished without trace.

As a midwife, Lainey’s mum, Emma, is determined to be there for those who need her. But when 17-year-old Lainey finds herself in trouble, this dangerous new world becomes very real. The one person who might help is Emma’s estranged mother, but reaching out to her will put them all in jeopardy....

The Hush is a new breed of near-future thriller, an unflinching look at a society close to tipping point and a story for our times, highlighting the power of female friendship through a dynamic group of women determined to triumph against the odds.

In typical Sara Foster fashion, I could not stop listening to this book! I was drawn in until the very end.

Couldn’t stop listening.

A fictitious book that could easily become true. Excellent story that keeps you guessing and highlights the issues women face with their health care on an ongoing basis. Heartbreaking and joyous at times, the book kept me wanting more.

Excellent

Excellent and timely dystopian novel written by Sara Foster, and narrated deftly by Tamala Shelton and Cathi Ogden! I can just imagine this art imitating life! Best novel by Sara that I've read so far; I hope she can top this!

Excellent and timely dystopian novel!

loved it and highly recommended it while I was listening. I couldn't wait to hear what happened next but was really let down by the ending. I wanted more and it was over really quickly

loved it til the end

After everything we have been through with Covid, this was an intense story of power and manipulation. One that even the non conspiracy theorist would be able to relate to and hope to never see. On the edge of my seat the entire time.
Would love to see a sequel of this story.
Highly recommended .

Intense and well written !

This book should be a must read for all women young and old. We must not ever let men make up rules for our lives and bodies. A lot of brave women fought for our rights we must never give them up. On a lighter side it is a good read and the plot never got stuck. It reads like a mystery

A thoughtful read

This is a very well done pre-dystopian novel that has a great storyline. Character development is a little minimal but the story itself more than makes up for it.

Very good!

An extremely well written story with a gripping plot and characters that were well fleshed out. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. There was one character choice that seemed unnecessary and wasn't well resolved, but otherwise this was an excellent book.

Excellent!

This Sara Foster speculative fiction offering about a world where babies are dying in the womb for some unknown reason is imaginative. Society's response to plunging birthrates worldwide is to treat pregnancy as something that needs to be taken out of the hands of the women experiencing it (abortion is immediately outlawed; the Government monitors for any hint of pregnancy among the citizenry and takes any woman with a positive test into custody; etc). Foster's overall theme is the loss of "Choice" in Family Planning decisions.
The book is a little heavy with the feminist messaging, but it wasn't overwhelming. In fact - coupled with Foster's praiseworthy writing skills (vocabulary/prose, characterization, plotting & pacing) - I found the premise behind the book intriguing.
My main issue with the presentation is that Foster is almost graphic in her description of day-to-day observations (disappointing sexual experiences & menstruation, for example). It felt uncomfortably like Foster was trying to convince me that this was non-fiction.

On the positive side of the ledger, readers Tamala Shelton and Cathi Ogden (alternately narrating from the perspectives of pregnant 17-year-old 'Lainey' and her midwife mother 'Emma') are outstanding. Both display peerless diction, timbre, cadence, and pacing - but also spot-on voice-acting and emotive tones. Blackstone Publishing Inc. cast this project brilliantly.

Altogether, I was happy to have gotten this audiobook for free as a 'Plus' selection. If you are given the choice between a text version of 'The Hush' or this 8.5/10-star recording, choose this one. It's worth a listen.

[Note: I agree with other readers/listeners that the ending to the book is questionable. It's not *bad* per se.. just unsatisfying]

Good premise, nice narration. Worth listening to on the way to work. Nothing ground shaking, but I didn't expect it to be.
