Description

Discover the infinite possibilities of the “vertical dimension” of existence.

Eckhart Tolle has long taught a curious truth: You’re not your possessions. You’re not your career. You’re not the events of your life. You’re not even the contents of your mind.

So, who are you?

With The Journey into Yourself, this beloved teacher invites you to join him on an odyssey beyond the “horizontal dimension” of thought and into an aspect of our lives that most of us overlook: the “vertical dimension” beyond the reach of the mind. According to Eckhart, the vertical dimension might be better known as the present moment or the now - all that ever really is. And that includes you - the real you.

Recorded before a live audience at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, The Journey into Yourself presents a rarely heard talk from early in Eckhart’s teaching career. Here you will encounter more than eight hours of practical, provocative, and occasionally hilarious teachings for awakening to who we are beyond the physical.

Highlights:

  • Why the phrase “life is a dream” is more accurate than you might expect
  • Piercing the veil of self-made suffering
  • The gentle and fierce aspects of embodied Presence
  • Why setbacks and discomfort are the most potent teachers
  • Wisdom teachings from Buddhism, Christianity, and Hindu traditions that point to the embodiment of Presence
  • Why right action can only arise from surrender to the moment

With The Journey into Yourself, Eckhart encourages you to step into the space between thoughts and discover the joyous treasures that lie within.

If your true self can’t be found in your job, your possessions, your body, or even the contents of your mind, then just who are you, anyway? Eckhart Tolle has long considered this question - and with The Journey into Yourself, he guides listeners on a fascinating exploration beyond conceptual identities and into the timeless consciousness of the present moment.

great bok

great book. My one complaint is with a strange loud laughter of someone in the audience laughing out of proportion to what was being said and very loud forced laughter from that one person in the audience. other than that a great book

Enlightening.

I loved the talks. My pain body hated the guy in the audience with the annoying laugh that was impossible to ignore.

Self discovery with a sense of humour

His sense of humour is surprising and colours the stories with personal hilarity. He simply explains how to observe yourself and identify resistance so you can live more peacefully with yourself and others

Eckhart at His Best

Eckhart has been a favourite of mine for years now. In these talks he is in top form. He is funny, provocative and very informative. His talk on entering and living the “NOW” is exceptional. I have spent many hours enjoying and appreciating this Audiobook and highly recommend it.

Mind Blowing- Literally

I have listened to the power of now, a new earth, and stillness speaks a few times and this is by far a wonderful addition to my collection. It deepens my understanding of what it means to be aware and awake in the present moment and be able to take right action from there. I found myself laughing at the human condition and my own mind in a healing way. I feel present as I listen. Very transformative. A gift to human beings everywhere. I would love to attend a retreat and sit in that field of energy with conscious people laughing and being.

Had to turn off distracting person in audience

I love Eckhart! Unfortunately this was way too hard to focus on the message with that one man’s constant obnoxious laughter. That should not be on an audible at all. Had to turn it off. Very disappointed!!! Where was the quality control?!

The laughing guy is contagious

I actually kept this after the third time around. I didn’t even notice the laughing guy until reading the reviews—I ended up getting it again just so I could see what people were talking about. You can hear him in like in the 22nd chapter but he’s funny and he’s not distracting. His laugh crows but it’s in the background, and adds good vibes and funniness,I think.
In fact, you can only hear him for some of the chapters, and when I couldn’t hear him anymore I missed him. I would love to be at a retreat with fun people.

I think in general something that took getting used to (which is why I kept this after having listened to some of his other talks) is the fact that Tolle does kind of use comedy a lot and that in itself can be distracting at first. But once you get used to that style of teaching it’s just how they all are, and it grows on you. The boisterous guy actually makes it easier to laugh IMO.

What was hard for me at first on this one is the tone, which is somehow more urgent and less peaceful than some of his other retreats. I’m keeping it this time though. It’s a good continuation if you’ve listened to some of the other ones. I’d recommend the India one and some of the more serious retreats before going into this one. Oddly this is an old one, but I think it was better for me later on.

Journey worth taking!

I enjoyed this so much that when I finish this review I will start all over again, I like many topics and as a mother really enjoyed his section on teaching kids how to be present. I had just tried recently teaching my 8 year old and upon saying the word “present” he had already drifted away from the conversation. There is so much value in what Eckhart teaches and I found this to be no less informative than his other books.

repetitive and boring

Slow, repetitive and a complete waste of time. This was a live recording of a retreat he did. an actual book would probably have been more intentional, distilled and peer reviewed before being sold. I endured until chapter 2 to see if it would get better. It didn't. I wish I had used my credit on something else.

Awesome! Negative reviews don’t make sense

Negative reviews mean the listener didn’t apply any of his information into their life! If I became distracted by someone in the audience, I would put in place being present and “poof” annoyance evaporated! I hope you enjoy this retreat experience. Although I wasn’t expecting it, I thought it was a nice change of pace than a traditional book.

easy listen. nothing new

the audiobook is an easy listen. if you've read any of his other books I don't think you'll find anything new here.

One thing I wish is that they could remove the laugh track in the background. His message is to accept what is and i am really trying to follow that advice. One of the most annoying things about this book is that there's a guy in the background who laughs like a crow. Now I'm not saying this to be mean it's just that once you start hearing it, you can't unhear it.
