Histoire
Jacqueline Keys was ostracized from her small hometown of Pine Springs, Texas, when she was 17, sent away because she was gay. Fifteen years later - long after she'd hitch-hiked to Los Angeles, put herself through college, and had written her first best seller - Jacqueline is persuaded to go back to the tiny town of Pine Springs after her father's death. The quick trip she'd envisioned for the funeral turns into weeks as she learns her father's business is suddenly hers to manage. And she is also again face-to-face with the woman who, as a teen, had been Jackie's first crush.

Histoire
Park ranger Kyler Clemons had loved the vibe and the beach of Mustang Island. Getting caught with her boss’ wife, however, got her transferred to the wild and remote Davis Mountains State Park - in the middle of nowhere. Now after four years, she’s forgotten about the beach and has embraced the mountain life, feeling like a local. She hangs out at the Cottonwood Creek Bar and Grill. She watches football with Mark Walton. She’s taken up birdwatching and stargazing. She is perfectly content. No stress. No drama. And no desire to date. Then Lexie Walton waltzes into her life.

Histoire
Twenty-three years ago, a young girl went missing. Two days later her body was found lodged beneath the footbridge over Boulder Creek. The murder shook the town but they soon found it was only the beginning. A serial killer hides among them - a serial killer who strikes twice, sometimes three times a year. Mason Cooper couldn’t wait to leave Gillette Park. At 18, she headed off to college and the bright lights of Los Angeles, thinking she'd never return home to the broken family and forgotten friendships she'd left behind.

Half a million dollars will be Celeste Thorne’s reward for spending four years of her life in total isolation. No faces. No voices. No way to leave. Since Celeste has never really worried about being alone, the generous paycheck she’ll receive for her participation in the solitary psychological experiment seems like easy money. When she finds an injured hiker in the woods bordering her living compound, her strictly governed world is thrown into disarray.

Histoire
While the investigations go on in Dallas and Baton Rouge after the disappearance of a senator's daughter, FBI agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are assigned to the sleepy backwoods of East Texas for a dead-end assignment to infiltrate an all-girls school. Random disappearances dating back 50 years and more raise red flags that point to the tiny, isolated community of Hoganville. But CJ and Paige fear there will be little distraction from the memories of the one-night stand they shared six months ago.

Histoire
An abandoned old house in a small town northeast of Houston is the site of a second murder, eerily similar to a supposed cold case of 14 years earlier. FBI Agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are dispatched to find the link between the two homicides. The team, including Ice and Billy, find the case to be anything but cold. For CJ and Paige, juggling the investigation while trying to keep their love affair a secret proves to be as hard as uncovering long-buried clues.

Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

FBI Agents Cameron Ross and Andrea Sullivan found the unexpected when they met amongst the warm red rocks and cliffs of Sedona - each other. That commitment, along with their ingenuity, courage and resolve, will be tested along the most barren of stretches in California's Mojave Desert. Life has become a farcical mess for icy British A-lister Elizabeth Thornton. America's most-hated villain stars in a top-rated TV medical drama that she hates. Now, she's been romantically linked to her perky, new co-star, Summer, due to the young woman's clumsiness. As a closeted actress, that's the last thing Elizabeth needs. If she could just get her dream movie role, life would be so much better. The only problem is that the eccentric French film-maker offering it insists on meeting her "girlfriend", Summer, first.

Great Actress, Great Characters!

Description
Denver detective Jake McCoy is trying to recover - both physically and emotionally - from the shooting death of a young boy that also left her injured. She soon finds herself rehabbing at her cabin in the mountains, soaking in the remote natural springs - which is exactly where psychologist Nicole Westbrook vacations and soon stumbles across her....
When Nicole leaves the next day, the two women know little more about the other than her first name - yet they are now lovers instead of strangers.
When Jake returns to Denver, a serial murder investigation soon leads her to Nicole. As the investigation develops, their physical attraction threatens to compromise the case. Nicole finds herself struggling to remain in the professional closet that she's been hiding in for so long - a place where an out cop like Jake McCoy simply does not belong.
Once the crimes are solved, will the women go their separate ways? Or will the physical attraction and the gentle tug of love prove that opposites do attract....

50 shades of gray quality
I was so disappointed by this book! there are so many good reviews- I thought the romance would be secondary to the action, but this is 50 shades of gray with some murder/ crooked cops in a loose story in the background. The narrator does a good job and the plot was coherent enough to keep me listening (since I paid for it) but WOW is the writing bad. The number of times I heard “she’s not your type” “Jesus, I’m a cop for God’s sake” and “her eyes captured hers” made it VERY hard to keep listening. If you want some sex/romance poorly written with some exciting crime plot in the background , fine. If you want anything other than that- skip it.

Good book but...
Tiny Spoilers. Some of the story is definitely cringeworthy. The love story is almost as cringeworthy. I enjoyed the criminal aspect of it but the details are very uncomfortable. Nicole is pretty awful. Especially at the end. This woman Jake saves her life and she just lets her limp away. Literally. I’m a lesbian and I would never ever let a sexy hero cop leave me. F every single thing else. The love story drags near the end. Completely frustrating. Because I listened to The Target first, I know how it ends. I rolled my eyes multiple times in the last hour. Sorry for the negative comments just be prepared.

Loved this book!
To say that I loved this book is really not enough. There were nail biting moments as the murder mystery unfolded with twists I didn't see coming. The descriptions of the mountains, hot springs and woodland areas were awesome. The characters developed like a fine wine sipped by an open fire. Jake and Nicole were amazing together. I looked up the original publication date (2006) when I thought about lesbians being closeted vs now that they are more free from much of the discrimination of just the few years that have passed. The freedom to marry has made a world of difference. I highly recommend this book for both romance and mystery.

Narrator voices
The only complaint I have is that the narrator’s voice for one of the female characters is so deep that when she moves to male characters, it sounds straining and uncomfortable to listen too. It also makes it hard to hear.
