Description

What's that you say? You want more village growth? Well be careful where you stand, because the Mist Village just took a Viagra-Cialis sandwich and there is a stiff breeze blowing! (I can make some more references if you're still not getting the point...did you see what I did there?)

Another Page-turner (can we call an audiobook that)

Seriously can’t believe how much I’m spending on this series but wow am I enjoying it.

Hilarious character development, great use of descriptive pros, especially believable magic... and the narration puts it over the top.

6/5 stars for me

Just bought 3 more credits as I can’t wait to finish this series.

PS can’t believe the author ended this book mid battle!?!

Excellent Review

An easy listen, following the storyline and enough action to keep you interested. In other words, I brought the next book in rhe series.

Well all right

I cannot say I am unhappy with it. It's a fantastic story there are however some different paths I sometimes beleive would have been better. But it is a compelling and gripping story. I find myself always drawn back.

Again and again, this series keeps getting better!

Once again a great story with darkness, humor, drama and action. I am greedily garding my latest credit in anticipation for the next release...which is close right?

Nick Podehl is an evil genius who has ruined all other narrators for me.

Least favorite book in my favorite LitRPG series.

I enjoyed this performance and the characters (especially the Ron Swanson parody character) as I've enjoyed the previous three books, but for a few things.

1) The title suggested the character would be plumbing the depths of The Catacombs...but never did. He mentioned wanting to go there...and then changed his mind. Wtf clickbait title?

2) Nothing from the overarching storyline was progressed or resolved. Literally nothing. All problem solved we're problems artificially introduced within this book itself, as we're all goals furthered only made goals within this book. Goals, storylines, quests, and character development started in earlier books were totally absent.

3) This book saw genital humor replace almost all other humor, and focused more on pop culture references and vulgarity to carry the dialogue, which was very disappointing.

All that said, I'm still invested and just hope hings get back on track with subsequent books. I really love the world and want to see more of it. I'm just disappointed hat this book felt like a "filler episode".

Mary Sue watch out, Richter is in town!

First of let me say that the story itself, the world, the concepts, the side characters, everything else in this series is great.

I gave this series 3 extra tries knowing full well that each book was cut in half to sell more of them. The main character is absolute trash. I've never hated a main character more. Doesn't grow or develop. No changes as experience is acquired. Nothing. The same childish awkward humor as the first book and outdated "how goes it my fellow teenagers" style of comedy. It takes place in the future but references 2010's, so the main character is also a hipster douchbag.

All the characters "selfless" motivations are thinly veiled excuses to be greedy, power hungry, and self centered. Never learning from mistakes and not accepting responsibility. A flash of morality to show he's a deep thinker then boom, doesn't matter cause loot! But he's such a good guy because this one sentence says he is! And he's so cool and always wins! And he can't die even though it really hurts! Oh also he slays so much puss. And is totally not myself that I wrote into the story. - the author probably

Besides having the most hated protagonist in literature, the story follows the exact formula of the last 3 books to the letter. And each book is the same story arc repeated 3 times with a cliff hanger at the end. Compound that with plot armor so thick he may as well have a plot bunker and you have yourself some sloppy writing.

Other than random deux ex machinas randomly popping up as a writers convenience, the world is amazing. I love everything about it. That's why I'm so incredibly disappointed.

The final nail is the whole self proclaimed father of LITRPG is a little much when all your blogs, bios, and even story synopsis is an ad to go to the Facebook page so you can be told to buy more of his books.

Read the first book, make your own judgement call, but don't say I didn't warn you.

It's Aleron Kong & Nick Podehl narrating...

What made the experience of listening to The Land: Catacombs the most enjoyable?

I love the way Aleron Kong writes... so the stories themselves would be good enough for me... but when you throw in Nick Podehl's narration? It's just this combination that makes you feel like you cant get enough...

What other book might you compare The Land: Catacombs to and why?

I'm new to LITRPG's and The Land is really the first one I've gotten into...

Which character – as performed by Nick Podehl – was your favorite?

Probably the main character Richter... since he has to be such a strange read sometimes... he goes from talking all medieval to talking about goofy 2010 nerd culture stuff. So much fun.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The series has definitely been built up for me... there's such a high level of excitement inside me as I listen just because I know how good it's going to be because I've been so pleased with the previous 3 books. The majority of the book makes me laugh.... it hasnt made me cry yet.

Any additional comments?

Worst book so far.

I was very disappointed in this book of the series. Aleron Kong took a great story and lead character and turned him into a foul mouthed sex addict. The language didn’t enhance either the character or the story in any way. I wish he would go back to a fun plot and story line instead of practicing his penis references.

land books: not much happens

I like books, but truly not much happens per 12 hour book. yet it must be good "enough" as I keep buying them.

so crude I stopped listening.

The first two books were fairly good. There aren't many Lit RPGs out there. But, the lead character is so OP that nothing is much of a challenge. The crudeness got worse in book 3 and I gave up after an hour of book 4. This was clearly written by a man for men. The odd swearing can add gusto to a story, but graphic descriptions of emasculation and the constant locker room banter clearly shows the target audience. Nick Pohdel is a great narrator, none the less!

Continued growth for Richter and Mist Village!

We are introduced to Stridex the Exile; a before unknown group of powerful creatures who will undoubtedly come into play at some future point. Richter, Randolphus (Randy) his Chamberlain, Scion his other-brother-from-another-mother, Fueton the floating misty ball, and of course Alma his familiar all continue to contribute to the growth of Misty Village. Richter continues to grow as well; his spells and abilities increase in level and power, as well as Richter’s physical self. Richter and Elma getting drunk at the village celebration were quite funny. The self-examination after the bear kill was interesting as well as the first group Richter formed as War Leader. Heaven’s Forge and the Dragon’s Philosopher Cauldron were also amazing. So much going on; it’s a great adventure!
