The Last Hieroglyph is the fifth of the five-volume Collected Fantasies series. Editors Scott Connors and Ron Hilger have compared original manuscripts, various typescripts, published editions, and Smith's notes and letters, in order to prepare a definitive set of texts.

The Last Hieroglyph includes, in chronological order, all of Clark Ashton Smith's stories from "The Dark Age" to "The Dart of Rasasfa".

I think that this is a perfectly serviceable collection of stories, and definitely deserving of a 5/5 rating in that regard. That being said, I think that C.A.S. definitely had some better stories in the previous book(s), and overall this volume of the collection feels a bit weaker than some others. This is an excellent collection for anybody who is already in love with Smith's writing, but if you're looking to get right into Smith at his best and weirdest, I would suggest trying out volumes 3 and 4 of this series first.
