The book is full of humorous anecdote and rich characterization, and paints a vivid picture of 18th-century London, peopled by prominent personalities of the time such as Sir Joshua Reynolds, John Wilkes, Oliver Goldsmith and David Garrick, while also giving a compelling insight into Johnson's complex humanity - his depression, fear of death, intellectual brilliance and rough humor.

This is a great work, and the narration is quite good. That said, there are numerous letters which are skipped over. For instance, from 1760-1761, there are about 4-5 letters which are completely missing from this audiobook. The letter dated October 18th 1760, quite a long one, is one such example.

This was quite good for the first 20~ hours, but now I'm at the point where it feels like this is nothing more than an abridgement. The last 2 hours, skipped at least 10% of the pages in my book, which has left me constantly figuring out where I am, and being pretty dissatisfied that I'm missing some.

Do not advertise this as an unabridged copy if it is not.

Otherwise, great book, and good narration.
