The grieving widower. The motherless daughters. A beautiful house in the woods. Deep in a remote Norwegian forest, Lexi has found a new home with architect Tom and his two young daughters. With snow underfoot and the sound of the nearby fjord in her ears, it’s as if Lexi has stepped into a fairy tale. But this family has a history – and this place has a past. True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn’t mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she’s retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace.

Description
Upon the cliffs of a remote Scottish island, Lòn Haven, stands a lighthouse.
A lighthouse that weathered more than storms.
Mysterious and terrible events have happened on this island. It started with a witch hunt. Now, centuries later, islanders are vanishing without explanation.
Coincidence? Or curse?
Liv Stay flees to the island with her three daughters, in search of a home. She doesn’t believe in witches, or dark omens, or hauntings. But within months, her daughter Luna will be the only one of them left.
Twenty years later, Luna is drawn back to the place her family vanished. As the last sister left, it’s up to her to find out the truth....
But what really happened at the lighthouse all those years ago?

Not what I expected
It took a few chapters to really get into this book but I’m so glad I kept going! And then I couldn’t stop listening. The way the stories weave together is so well done and the narrators are perfect.

Really good!!
A great story! it's scary at times, but resolves in a way you don't see coming. I really liked how folklore was woven into a modern story in a way that is not cheesy and doesn't require a major suspension of disbelief. A great mystery that makes you care for the characters. Highly recommend!

I was enthralled!
This was an absolutely fantastic listen. The performances absolutely incredible and each narrator bringing their chapters to life for me. With sooth and caning voices but still keeping my attention locked in.
With each chapter I grew more and more attached to each of the characters, always holding out hope for them to have a happy ending. I loved how small and intimate this book felt. Although I can see for some that this book may be light on dark magic, witchcraft or any intense dark themes of the occult. I was throughly impressed and left in suspense always excited to get to the next chapter and see where the story took me. I would easily suggest this book to anyone looking for a book that keeps you entertained and keeps its aura of suspense without ever feeling too overwhelming.
I loved it!

Wow!
The utterly imaginative yet suspenseful way the author was able to bring character development, mystery, suspense, heart, witchcraft and time travel together to create such a page turner is a complete gift. I’ll definitely be reading more works from C. J. Cook as soon as possible.

A Slow Burn Paranormal Story
THE LIGHTHOUSE WITCHES is a combination of paranormal, the supernatural, and family told from different perspectives over the span of different times. It's a little complicated, but the ending pays off.
The story primarily focuses on Liv as she moves to a lighthouse for a job with her three daughters, all of which she has a complicated relationship with. However, the family is torn apart by terrible and supernatural circumstances, which lead to one of the daughters discovering the bizarre truth of what happened to her mother and sisters.
All of the characters are interesting and acted like real people, though I found it hard to connect with many of them. I empathized with Luna the most, finding her to have the best overall development. Many of the characters had a lot of angst with them, which often lead to many emotionally heavy scenes.
The plot is a little slower, as much of the focus remains on family drama. While there were some fun and spooky surprises to enjoy and the clean prose made the story easy to follow, I found the constant time jumping to be a little disjointed. While I understood whose POV we remained in and what was happening, it made returning to other scenes with other characters in different timelines a little more challenging.
While I did enjoy this novel and found that the ending was entirely satisfying, and one of the best parts (even though there was a bit of a deus ex machina, in my opinion), I couldn't quite connect with the protagonists because of the jumping timelines. Still, this is a rewarding read and I think readers who are fans of slow burn thrillers will find a lot to enjoy here.
